I admit I'm a neophyte when it comes to computers, so please keep this simple for me.
I think my sound card has died, in any case, I've up graded my PC speakers (logitech R20) with a Sub woofer, I am using the computer more and more for Audio, copying CD's and downloading to an MP3 player. Seeing as I need to replace my card, what should I look for in a replacement? I'm not looking for 7-1 surround sound, I'm not into Gaming. just need good sound but I'm perplexed by what's on the market. What specs are important for my use?

Specs depend on what you connect and how you connect.

Make sure that your current sound card has the lastest drivers, and is enabled. Sometimes a simple incorrect connection, or software install will hose the sound. Even windowsupdate will hose some integrated soundcards, requiring a manual install of older driver.

Depending on how much you want to spend, what type of PC spare slot you have, you can't go wrong with almost any brand.

Generic, Creative, Hercules, Maudio, Turtlebeach.....all make good cards. I'm happy with my Fortissimo and have installed many Creative's without any issues. Shop online since local electronic stores charge too much.

IMO, you would have to own a relativey high end audio system (amp and speakers) in order to actually hear some difference between various sound cards. Not to rain on your parade or sound like an a_s_s, but logitech R20 isn't exactly "high end".

With that in mind, any name brand entry-level sound card should do the job. You may want to browse sites like http://www.newegg.com to find some user reviews, but in any case, I wouldn't spend too much.

The easiest and least expensive way is to get a USB sound card off ebay. You can get one for around $10. Plug it into the USB port, plug your speakers or headphones into the hole and eureka, you have sound. Search for USB sound card, there are tons and tons of them.
