Hello everyone

Just got off the phone with my GF, she was at the dealership for an oil change, and called me asking about all these things they tried to up sell her for.

Typical, since it was a woman getting the service done.

BUT here's the part that really ticks me off!

She drives a 2WD jeep patriot, and they tried to sell her a front AND REAR differential fluid change!!

This is un-acceptable! Trying to make her pay for work on something that doesn't even exist!!

If I was there a would have torn them a new one!! ^#$&(*@^$(&!@^$(

Ok, sorry, rant over. and for anyone curious, she managed to get out of there with only the oil change she wanted, thank god!

Should have let them do the "work" and then simply call them up after to point it out.

You would have gotten the oil change for free that way.

This!

I think this is a good way to deal with it because it teaches them the lesson they understand best. If they screw with the customer it will cost them money!

Do you still have their recommendation in print format? For example, do you have the receipt which shows that customer declined to do rear differential fluid change? If yes, go nail them. Contact your consumer protection agency or equivalent.

They need to be stopped from doing this to the next customer

As long as they refunded your GF for the phantom service they "performed" then the oil change would be truly free. Though I don't think I'd trust them ever again to be honest.

So long as it's in a quote, they can claim it as an honest mistake and will be able to further claim that it would have been noticed by the mechanic and not charged on the final invoice.

If they took the money for it, THEN you could make them famous.

Sounds like it may have been an honest mistake during a typical upsell attempt. Not really sure what all the fuss is about...

I guess thats why Jeep/Chrysler/Dodge dealers just finished last in a new survey of dealer satisfaction. When will they ever learn? Chrysler supposibly had created "Customer One" and "5 Star Award" to get dealers to increase customer PR,those programs ended, and I guess its every man for himself now.

Very typical to me having worked at many.
They put everyone they can on commission and to make a decent living you have to "try hard"

A friend sold a car and had the price sheet. He called all happy to say he just made a $4000 deal (25% to him)
He called me an hour later to say they told him they forgot to add a 3000 dollar shop bill to the car.

Another friend at a different dealer sold a new Ford GT 40 to his own customer for 40,000 over sticker and the new owner who just paid 16 million for the place told him he could not afford to pay the normal commission would he take 1,000.

Same thing happened on a 20,000 over deal to another friend on the first GTR in the state at a Nissan Dealer.

That's three different dealers, what happens to the workers, why should a customer be treated different? I got a whole different view of these leading citizens in 2000 dollar suits.

Honest mistake IMHO, i wouldn't believe this existed, actually for ANY jeep product.

Except that the DEALER has all the information that makes this clear to THEM. (VIN) Already in their system at the fingertips of the SW. Yes, it is possible that he COULD have made this offer in error, but I don't believe it.

Call the manufacturer for help. When a dealer tries to pull a quick one and tarnish the brand, the brand is very serious in finding it out and act accordingly.

Once upon a time a dealer refuse to fix a dented muffler on a new car I just got out of the driveway unless I bring in the survey. The survey never came and when I bring it up later they pretend nothing was agreed upon. I called the manufacturer and the president of the dealership call me the next day and invite me to bring the car in for the work.

My sister just bought a new car and had to fight to get the OTD internet price she was quoted over email. Then the salesman told her to be nice in an upcoming survey. She asked why, when she had to fight to get a written quote?

I'm so proud of her.

Sounds like an honest mistake....

The service writer is not a mechanic. THIS is why I don't understand how they can upsell.....particularly, upsell services they do not know ANYTHING about....

Now, I've been to Walmart TLE, and haave heard them check people's battery, tires, wiper blades, air filter, etc....and after "checking" them, they would attempt an upsell....based on the "present condition" of said items....

But yea, it should be the MECHANIC doing the upselling, not the service writer, who is likely NOT CERTIFIED....with perhaps other than basic paper shuffling certification, stapler operator license, and pen-handling license....
