I'm sure it will happen more often.

That will happen more often also.

Get the car back from the dealer. Then study as much about 12V electronics as you can - then visit the "friendly" local car audio shop(NOT Worst Buy) and get a 2-way alarm system(Viper or any DEI brand recommended), and any applicable databus modules/accessories as well as a battery backup and glass sensor. Factory systems don't work, period.

No system can prevent theft by a pro, or if the thief loads up your car. No alarm system will prevent breaking glass or vandalizing. Almost every time I drive downtown I see someone smash in bright daylight, with people and even cops nearby, windows of parked cars, stealing whatever is visible on the seats and dash. Nobody gives a hoot if an alarm goes off. Someone might throw something at your car if the alarm goes off under someone's bedroom window.

My factory alarm includes:

- starter disabler/coded key
- motion sensor in passenger compartment
- contact sensors on all doors, trunk and hood

No incident in 13 years. *knocks on wood* I attribute that mostly to not leaving any attractive items in the passenger compartment.
