So anyone REALLY compared GC0W30 and M1 0W40?

But his personal dislike for you is idiotic.

This is like me taking issue with Sonny Leonard on performance engine design because he builds GM engines and I'm a Ford guy.

I'm just going to quote something here (hopefully Doug doesn't mind) to provide a blast of reality to this thread:

Quote:
The author of this publication Doug Hillary, was born in Dunedin, New Zealand.

He has spent his entire working life in the Road Transportation Industry with special emphasis on the Technical Training of Drivers and Staff of Companies with which he has been associated.

He has had a wealth of experience with both Vehicle Manufacturers and Transport Operators here and abroad.

In 1975 he was awarded the Alex Harvey Industries, Fellowship to study Truck Technical Developments and Maintenance in the U.S.A. and Europe.

Additionally Doug has gained extensive knowledge of the Road Transport Industries operated in Denmark, New Zealand and the U.S.A.

This is on the back of "The Commercial Vehicle Technical Handbook"

(For Professional Drivers and Operators)

By Doug Hillary

The inside back cover has an ad for Castrol on it, featuring Turbomax and RX Super.

This particular book was printed in 1988. I was eight years old then.

The organizations noted for contributing material include (but are not limited to, as the list is long)

-Castrol
-Cummins
-Eaton
-Esso (Exxon Mobil)
-Ford
-International
-Kenworth
-Mercedes
-Michelin
-Volvo
-ZF

So, the Cliff's Notes for this thread is as follows:

Castrol puts a obviously superior product on the US shelves and then VW uses it in their engines as factory fill, AFTER Doug claims it blew engines and was "withdrawn" from his market, or at least some product with the same name "SLX".

His credibility is so solid on the matter, he doesn't need to document his claims but does need moral support from the Three Stooges, who themselves contribute about as much intellectually to the Forum as they contribute monetarily.

Nevermind the data showing GC to produce excellent results as well as the fact Castrol decided to use the ~tainted~ SLX name on a premium line of OE service oils.

Hilarious.

Maybe not if it doesn't have VW 503.01.

This should be Veedol Syntron (not Veedon - a typo in the original post listing the approved products). Veedol Syntron 0w30 is likely the same as GC. Veedol is another brand name that Castrol has been using in Germany - it has a long history.

Selection of oils for sale in Germany

The Veedol Syntron bottle is the middle one on the left. Most (if not all) Veedol products are the same as Castrol branded products.

For example Castrol TWS Motorsport 10W-60 (Castrol Formula RS Racing Syntec SAE 10W-60) is the same as Veedol Synthetic Z 10W-60.

Rather, I think the hilarity is found in the following:

1. You think anybody on here actually cares what YOU think when you get into one of your posting tirades against Doug.

2. You think that your monetary contribution ads some sort of credibility to your baseless posts.

3. You think that your argumentative posts are intellectually stimulating..... For some reason, I can't seem to find the post that lists your extensive tribological background, real world engine testing experience and formal training on this topic. As well of course the millions of miles of tear-down testing.

Wait wait, those are DOUG's credentials, that's why.

4. You call us stooges because we feel the need to stand behind somebody who's had more tribological experience in the last WEEK than you've had in your entire lifetime. Yet fail to see that your continued badgering of a valued member makes YOU nothing more than a troll. And I'll take being a stooge over a troll any day.

Truly hilarious.

Sincerely, Moe.

Thank you sir for that informative post. I suspected as such, but the current climate on BitOG is one that discourages speculation.

It's a shame to see the formula that's applied to discussions here nowadays. Sad.
