Should I trust Jeep engineers on 0W-20?

@OIL_UDDER (sp?) was around here awhile back and had some things to say in support of 0w20 in the newer Pentastar. He had a Chrysler 300c with an earlier gen with well over 100k and ran 5w20. He was on the design team for the gen 1 Pentastar. I view him as an expert on the Pentastar, in general, even though he wasn't there for the PUG. But he stayed in touch with friends who developed it.

I'd sum it up this way. The PUG (Pentastar Upgrade--newest version) was designed for and validated on 0w20. That's what it was made to work with to meet all the durability specs, which, IIRC, are very stringent. If you search a bit, he laid out the reasons 0w20 is recommended for this engine, specifically for lubrication of certain areas with tight tolerances.

But I haven't heard of any issues with 5w30. I look forward to seeing some high mileage examples. But I have not seen those yet.
So I think it's more about feelings than anything else, which is fine. I am no engineer, but I can't imagine it would do any harm. But I also would not kid myself into thinking a good 0w20 will do any harm, either.

That settles it then. The wife has a 2020 Chrysler Pacifica that specs 0w-20 and I have a jug of Supertech 5w-20 synthetic I bought for my daughter's car but she traded it in before I changed the oil. I change every 5k.

I just did this with my Jeep GC Limited. Going to 5/20 gives me a bit of peace of mind. It made no actual difference at all. Oil pressure is 26/29 stopped in drive and 30 lbs at driving speed. I have 42K on mine and out of warranty.

Going from a 0w20 to a 5w20 isn’t going to make any difference at all once the engine is up to temperature as they are both the same viscosity.

I myself think 0w20 is more robust vs 5w20. I think 0w20 has a better additive package, but that is just me. Also circulates faster at startup and dissipates heat possibly better than 5w20?? Just My Opinion

Here is couple of runs with Amsoil SS 0w-20 on a 21 Gladiator I no longer own. Traded it in at 27k. The iron was very high on both runs. It never trended down even for a new engine that could be breaking in still. Either 0w20 was not sufficient or maybe a cam was getting torn up common on these. Hard to tell since most 3.6 are noisy. I would of moved up to a 30-40 weight but ended up getting rid of the Jeep do constant dealer visits since buying it. PUP 0w-40 or M1 ESP 0w-30 should serve you well. Unless you want to try something boutique like HPL, Amsoil, Redline etc. I do miss the convenient 5 quart sump and cartridge filter.

How does it circulate faster with the same pump?

My guess is that something was wrong. I've never seen iron that high in a PUG Pentastar, even at the first one which was around 1.5k or 2k, when the worst of the break-in materials would be present. I have run nothing but 0w20 in mine from new onward.

Less Viscous, flows better. Thinner at startup, 0w20 flows better than 20w50/ I think 0w20 would flow a touch better than 5w20 especially when cold. If it gets faster to the top of the engine it also returns to the oil pan faster.
