It's been a while since my last post....mostly been reading. Anyway, I just finished reading the 101 guide, and learned a lot from that. About 1.5 years ago, I purchased a Honda Civic 1.5L 5 speed with 150k miles on it from a buddy of mine who bought it new. I don't think he was much on preventative maintenance, and as soon as I bought it I started running Castrol Edge 5w30 in it (from reading up on the forum about that oil at the time, it sounded as good as you can get over the counter). I now have 188k on it, and after reading the 101 guide, I'm thinking of trying out the new 0w20 oils, and I found it on sale today at O'Reilly's for $4.99/qt. What do you guy's think? I've been doing OC's at 7.5k and using either Napa Gold or Purolator Gold. Thanks for any input......

$4.99 is a good price for the EDGE. Do it.
$4.99 is pretty good. Edge is available in 0W20 too, and if you like the Edge, stick to that. But 4.99 is tempting. I just like to stick to a brand I like rather than switching. I always heard its best to stick to one in the long run. Don't know if there is any truth to that or not, but the owner's manual for my old VW actually says find one and stick to it. Of course, if I have a reason to change at some point I will.

I'm sorry, I didn't say which one was $4.99. It is the M1 and not the Edge. I had some coupons for Advance about 1 year ago, and ended up getting Edge for around $2.50/qt, so I stocked up. I did notice when I started running it in the car, I would have to top it off before OCI. I wasn't doing this when I first got the car and ran dino in it for the first 2-3 OCI. I figured I would give the green top bottle M1 0w20 a go to see what it would do.
The problem with reading an article you know nothing about the subject is how do you know what you are reading is opinion or fact?
Try the 0w20. I doubt you'll notice a difference, but fuel economy might go up a tad.
Yea, but the Motor Oil 101 guide I read on here explained the ins and outs of motor oil as good as anything else has to where it makes sense to me (if that's possible!). I figure I'll give it a shot, and see how I like it.....It's not like I'm pouring 3.5 quarts of sand in the motor.
