You must not be familiar with my DUI thread? It was a major hassle getting my license back. I'm currently sober and hitting the AA meetings like I hit the bars.

Now I remember you!

So do you have any other convictions besides the DUI, other felonies?
You don't have to be specific.

Vowel, is it a big deal if I put a pocket of batteries in my pocket? I live on the West side of Chicago. The police just don't seem to care about that sort of stuff.

Would it be a big deal if I walked in to your house and put your stuff in my pockets? If the police don't seem to care maybe it's not a crime, right?

Yes, it is. And secondly, whether the police care or not is irrelevant to whether or not something is a big deal. And when the police think that something is a big enough deal to cause gunplay, then you consider it to be an affront to humanity.

It doesn't matter whether it's a five cent piece of Bazooka Joe gum or a Ferrari or millions of dollars. If it doesn't belong to you, hands off. It's pretty simple, pretty clear, and pretty obvious.

So, if it's the west side of Chicago and no one cares, should someone from outside the neighborhood arrange a bunch of home invasions in the poorest households and clean them out good and proper? The police probably won't care, dismissing it as gang violence.

I don't think qwerty cares much for law enforcement officers anyway.

He's always sticking up for the thugs...

Why would you feel okay about stealing something? Would you be okay with someone helping themselves to your property?

Congrats on getting out of loss prevention. I cannot imagine a job where your main work is negative interaction in terms of dealing with others on a daily basis.

Good luck on your next endeavor.

My experience with LP has been just as negative.

One time while shopping at a Neiman Marcus, an LP guy kept following me around. It was obvious he was following me because he literally went everywhere I did, and looked at the exact same merchandise as me. As I finally started picking up things that I wanted, he was joined by a friend and finally approached me to ask if I wanted him to hold my merchandise for me. When I told him I've been shopping by myself for a long time, he still insisted on holding the merchandise for me. When it became clear this conversation was going nowhere, I gave him the merchandise, and left the store without buying anything

The worst ones, however are the Walmart folks. One time, when comparing vitamins, 3 of them came separately out of nowhere and literally crammed the whole aisle pretending to shop for vitamins too. They were so bad at it. They looked like they were examining moon rocks rather than shopping. I just said, "This is such bull****, and you guys are so ****ing unnatural.", and left. They were so bad at their act that they never even reacted to some one chucking a bottle back on the shelf and calling them incompetent. A regular person would have at least looked.

I'm glad you had good training, because there are a lot that have not.

No you can't get in trouble for that. Once you have paid, that merchandise belongs to you. You dont have to "prove" to any employee that you own the merchandise. They have to be able to prove, without a shadow of a doubt that the merchandise you are leaving with does not belong to you. And the only way they can do that is to have complete and full surveillance on you via camera or a person watching you walk around the store.

Why even draw attention to yourself ... just show the receipt to the person on the way out, takes a whole 3 seconds.

I'm white, light brown hair and blue eyes....

I've had Hispanic, White and Black LP employees follow me at Wamlart.... I really don't get mad cause I know they are poorly trained and trying to do a low paid job. It's not profiling when they keep 'an eye' on you and spot what they think is someone acting strangely.

I also shop alone as I want in be in and out within 10 minutes.

It's because some of these people have a problem with authority...they want to be able to do whatever they want unchecked...

A lot of police suffer from the same complex.

Thank you for that, it makes it more sure that I know who you are now.

Some car salesmen profile certain demographics.

If you don't fit a certain look, they are not interested in showing you an Audi, BMW , Benz, Porssche, etc....

It's a bad practice. Back when I sold cars, I used to field everyone that the other sales guys saw as worthless. They we're particularly biased against Asians, Eastern Europeans, and Pakistanis. It's just a different culture. They would walk in looking like it was laundry day, act like they had a billion dollars in the bank, and act like spoiled children.

It's just a culture of proving they are "not just another third worlder". Like "look at me, I'm different from what you see on the news!". Process to earn their trust, but once I did, it was not unusual for them to come in, select a few vehicles, drive a hard bargain, pay cash, and come back with a small team of relatives or friends to pick them up.

My favorites were the older crowd. 9 times out of 10, they knew more about our cars than we did.

To be fair to a dealer/car salesman, I've known a few people that have no intention (or income) to purchase high end sports cars. That didn't stop them from trying to test drive them while they wasted the salesman's time.

I don't consider a store security guard to have any authority over me.

If a salesman was doing their job correctly they'd sell the car to someone who never wanted it. Its a two way street.

Every body that walks in is a prospect. There is soooo much idle time for these guys.....

They have authority if you are stealing, for sure. Up until that point, they are absolutely nobody.

I wouldn't go out of my way to disrespect the security guard checking receipts. He or she is just a guy or gal told to do something, and evenly apply it to everyone. No animus or judgement involved.
