Shop used 10w-30 instead of 5w-20.

As stated in title, the wrong oil was used in a recent oil change. The car is an old 2004 Civic. Is it ok to run it for a few months or should I have it changed immediately?

Thicker is better

It's absolutely no problem. You may see a 1 or 2% decrease in fuel economy.

Really a weird mistake for a shop to make though, Honda hasn't used 10w30 in eons

Yeah, I was not happy when I saw the invoice. Looks like everyone thinks it will be fine. Thanks.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I read multiple sites online saying it may cause engine damage due to thicker viscosity when starting the engine cold. It had me worried.

FWIW I see so many fleet service receipts that use 10W30 or 15W40 in literally everything with no issues.

The only time it would matter is if you are starting the car under about -25°F after sitting overnight. If you aren't, or the oil will be changed again before then, don't sweat it.
