Seriously considering 2012 Accord 4dr EX-L V6 Navi

It is insane. Cost directly related to how crazy it is. I still think the TSX stereo (ELS) gives the F30 Harmon Kardon upgraded stereo a run for the money.

I am looking forward to a timing belt service on my MDX 3.7 V6,not! Honda V6 still uses that on the Accord.

TSX for me hands down. Japanese built, better handling and wagon!

Drive to New Jersey and get it done there at Hamilton Honda. They do it for $400 + 75 if the tensioner needs to be replaced.

Either the combustion chamber size is different, or the pistons are different.

No, it looks like if you change the thickness of the head gasket, you get different compression ratio. Effectively height of the top deck is altered which changes both the uncompressed and compressed volume bit affects the compressed value proportionally lot more.

So, how exactly do I find the current "good deal" price? truecar or edmunds tmv seems to be still too high as I do not believe they are accounting for the hidden incentives to the dealer.

I am not complaining about the currently available deal but want to make sure I am not leaving hundreds of dollars on the table.

Vikas, that is a good question. When shopping for a new vehicle, it is always nice to know what a good deal is. I am happy to leave profit for the dealer, but not the thousands that their asking price and fees usually include.

Best way to find out is to sign up on a Honda specific forum and create a thread asking others how much they paid for their Accord, and what would be considered a good deal.

When you get internet quote, is that "final price" or am I supposed to haggle them down? I have looked at Honda specific forum and the price sounds fair but there are always going to be geographical variation. Two dealers have told me that the paper work fee is $400. Is that reasonable?

You could play them off of each other, I suppose? Internet price at my dealer is usually a thousand or two lower than sticker. Typically its msrp + destination... So really there should still be a little room for negotiation or at least some freebies like some kind of interior accessories that they normally would charge for...

I have been driving 1999 Odyssey. I drove it a dealer to test drive the Accord. I was expecting to be blown away when stepping out of 13 year minivan in to this state of the art fully equipped 271 hp Accord.

Sadly, that was not the case. What is wrong with me? I can still remember the visceral feeling I got when I first drove Maxima in 2000 or SHO or brother's Eagle Talon Turbo in 1990. They barely had 200hp but they all loved to go fast. This 271hp on the paper car just did not seem to be eager to go fast. It was also very annoying that it used to drop down to three cylinder mode (eco) every time I used to let off to cruise. There is no way to disable that feature. Even putting it in D3 instead of D, the eco feature was still getting activated. At least the transition was seamless but it seemed to add lag when punching the pedal. It could cruise effortlessly at 80 but needed to be manhandled to drop down and even then it was not a rush. I know I can get my 2000 Maxima to go from 80 to 90 without downshifting (I have manual) quicker than this particular specimen with downshifting.

This demo had less than 5K on the clock and I could already feel the slight pulsation while braking.

My three vehicles are 12,13,13 years old and each one has at least 180K on them. What is the problem with me if a 2012 $30K car does not impress me??? Are my expectations out of line? I have not purchased a new car since 2000 and I was assuming that *anything* I buy today would be so far better than all my jalopies :-( Even the Odyssey can touch triple digit without downshifting on level road if there is enough room. I verified that after the test drive (not on the public road!)

Is it possible that this demo car was an anomaly and I need to test drive another V6 Accord?

There are some factory freaks, and possibly some duds, but I highly doubt driving a different one would change your opinion.

Join the club. I test drove an almost new G37 manual (330 HP) recently, and came away unimpressed as well. Or put it this way, I wasn't impressed enough to say goodbye to some $23K and my 10-year-old 530i.

Yeah, of course head gasket thickness also effects c/r.

I recall when I sat in the rental Mustang convertible couple years ago, my expectations were minimal but was I impressed with the new modular V6 from Ford! I had to confirm that it had NO V8 under the hood. I am not that jaded!

Difference is that I have to purchase a vehicle.

Now I upped my budget but now I will need the vehicle to impress me even more!

May be some of you were right. I should just buy a vanilla 4 cyl Accord or Camry which I would have no expectation except to give 12+ years of reliable boring service :-(

One would think that buying something this expensive would give me joy and not "meh".
