I have a Husky 1/2” drive torque wrench that I think is pretty decent but it’s really just a mid/low level consumer grade wrench. I’ve had it for a few years and it’s primarily used for tightening lug nuts. The other day I noticed I had apparently put it back in its box without relieving tension (set to ~80 ft*lbs) after using it, and it sat that way for a couple weeks. This, combined with the fact that it’s a few years old, has left me at least mildly interested in getting it calibrated. Technically I don’t even know yet if my wrench is adjustable but I can probably find out.
I was hoping to find a local shop that would do calibration but haven’t had much luck yet. I’m going to look a little more but it seems like there are also places you can send wrenches to get them calibrated. But given that being dropped or knocked around is bad for the calibration, it seems like putting a torque wrench in the mail isn’t the best idea. Or, maybe it’s just sharp impacts from dropping that are bad and as long as it’s well packed, shipping isn’t a problem?
I’ve read the various threads here on torque wrench calibration and I know many are of the opinion that it’s not necessary but IMO if the tool is going to be used for measurement then it might as well get calibrated at least once in a while!
