Running 0w40 or 5w40

I am as confused about that as you are?? I just can't explain it.


Better oil maintaining viscosity as it ages? Dunno, that's my only guess. Maybe it gets a bit too thin and you start hearing some clattering as it gets towards the end.
 
I'm putting 0w40 in this afternoon....CAFE calls for 5w20. I will report back....
 
In my car I have used:
- full synthetic ILSAC 5W30
- synblend 10W30
- synblend 10W40
- full synthetic 0W40
- full synthetic 5W40
- mineral 15W40

Not all of the above were listed in my owners manual, but they all worked fine.
 
Running Amsoil Signature 0w40 in all 3 of our daily drivers.
2011 Nissan Quest with a 3.5 known to shear oil
a 1998 GMC 1500 with 4.3 v6 that occasionally tows a camper
and my daily beater 2003 Cavalier with a 2.2 Ecotech.
