Rumor check on Havoline

"AAP house brand oil was bottled by Havoline" This is *not* true, and has not been true since at least before the merger into CVX of this brand.

No way CVX would risk the brand association for the meager profits of private lablel biz methinks.

AAP used, last I heard, Coastal/Warren Unilube in West Memphis.

AAP kinda makes folks think it is "as good as...". I dunno..

I personally assume they do not have the technology, QC, and resources of CVX, but have no personal knowledge of AAP supplier capabilites. I did note in a quick google:

The TEXACO emblem on new Havoline DS does seem wierd. I was also confused why my Shell gas card is good at TEXACO, but TEXACO is part of....Chevron...??? I wish we had Chevron stations back east WITH retail lube sales. I can't complain Shell is good gas, but why TEXACO stations are hanging around still, I dunno.
What brought me to Chevron oil was the association with Techron being a good product. Thatr's maybe a point that big oil cos don't really get- customers connect the lube products and fuels in their purchasing decisions. That being, a good motor oil or motor oil LINE has a halo-effect or tie-in with gas sales. A lot of people probally buy Mobil gas becaise of their lube line....am I getting at something?

Well if it is not true then they should stop saying it is from Chevron on the back of the bottles here at my local AAP!!!
As well the boxes of AAP filter should no longer say they are made by FRAM!!!

I don't know how to say this without saying you have a reading/comprehension problem, but... You need to read more carefully.

The EXACT wording on the AAP totalgrip oil filter (I have one right here) is: Compare to Fram (R)* and *This product is not manufactured or distributed by Honeywell International Inc., owner of the registered trademark Fram (R).

Looking at the filter it is clearly made by Purolator.

I don't have any AAP oil here to look at but I'm sure the bottles say "Compare to Havoline", and have a disclaimer about NOT being produced by Chevron. And I'm sure the oil IS bottled for AAP by Warren-Unilube.

when texaco merged with shell and chevron, shell got the fuels and chevron got the lubes...this was explained to me couple of years ago by a imdustrial lubricant distributor here in denver...

Chevron and Texaco merged and Shell bought some assets. Shell is not part of Chevron or Texaco.

The confusion is easy though as many Texaco retail stores turned into Shells.

As I own Chevron stock, I can add that it has been stated many times by Chevron that the ChevronTexaco name did cause much confusion, so they felt that it would be best to refer to the corporate mothership as simply Chevron.

This being said, they (Chevron) felt that the brand recognition of 'Texaco' in some areas was so strong, that they (Chevron) would be foolish in ever giving up the Texaco brand name.

An effort for the last several years has been underway to make sure that retail store alignment was improved so as to not have Chevron and Texaco stores right accross the street from one another. Many stations where closed/sold as a result. (still underway, a Texaco nearby just got a very nice face lift)

I have not heard nor read any mention of a proposal for Chevron to sell the brand name of Havoline as once again it is deemed as a very strong brand name to Chevron.
