Bottle indicates [about] fifteen hours of operation for product to effect cleanup.

At "city time" of 24 mph average, that would be 360 miles; "highway time" of 50 mph, at 750 miles.

Is this within the experience of others, this amount of miles?

Am keeping an eye on coolant level (have some suspicions not yet verified about system integrity), and am looking for info on this product so as to gauge what I may be observing; namely, that RMI can "clean out" a false seal thus increasing a possible leak.

Vehicle is my 2001 RAM V8-318 at 105,000 miles. Cooling system was first drained/flushed/refilled by me; and a few thousand miles later water pump failed and I had the system completely opened (block drain plugs removed), and the system power backflushed and refilled to spec by dealer after pump replacement.

Your post is appreciated.

It is also meant as a continuos use product so I personally would leave it in long enough to error on the long side of the 15 hours. If in doubt about that the bottle also says bad stuff will collect on the surface in the recovery tank watch that if not much happens there then I wouldn't be concerned with a real immediate drain. On the otherhand if it sludges up fast I might drain it sooner.

Yes, I don't intend to remove it, and the info you've given is included in directions as shipped.

I've been considering installing a coolant filter (see Bill Plocks excellent post on same); in the meantime I may drain and flush a little ("overflow" the radiator or coolant recovery tank as recommended).

COOLANT FILTERS?

Thanks.

Have driven just over 5,000 miles since first posting (now at 110,000). Coolant looks like new, and there has been no "junk" collected, no surface scum noted under rad cap or in overflow.

This interval includes a trip with a drive-time of 47-hours in a little over 4-days (2,711 miles).

I'm inclined to think the RMI-25 is fine, and that the cooling system had been decently maintained by previous owner (a local man, commuting 22k annually before I bought with 88k on it; 1.2 years ago).

Will report more at next service when hoses are replaced.

Used some expensive (HD truck) test strips this past week on two vehicles with RMI-25 at about one year +/-. Both had same spec freeze protection and pH.

WOW, that is high. There are cheaper site for RMI here. Then again, you are right. So places are high, very high. I still have yet to see lower temps or any discoloration in coolant using Dex-cool. So far nothing new here.

What site are you buying from dargo? I would like to pick some up while I am in the states and bring it back here. I don't need the big size, just the little one.

DJ, the instructions on the bottle are very clear :

A. RMI-25 is used in new vehicles to prevent corrosion
and in used vehicles to clean the system and prevent
corrosion.

B. RMI-25 is non-toxic and safe for all metals, metal
finishes, aluminum engines, skin and eyes.

C. Lubricates water pump seals and heater control valves.
Retards electrolysis and corrosion erosion.

D. Dosage - 8 oz. per 5 gal. cooling system. Maintain
every 15,000 miles (300) hours.

E. Corroded systems are cleaned in two weeks (15 hrs.)
of normal driving.

F. Radiator draining and refilling aren't required.
Excessive corrosion floating on the surface of a cool
radiator can be flushed by overflowing the radiator
at the cap or recovery tank.

G. In extremely rusted systems where rust penetration
has occurred, good cleaning action may reveal a leak.
Quality stop-leak is recommended to seal such openings.
If leakage persists, see a radiator specialist.

H. Contains fluorescent leak detector.
...............

Couldn't get much more simple...

After about 1 week of driving with RMI-25, my TEFBA filter is catching some debris that was not showing up before. This is just small pieces, but it looks like it is doing something.
