TAN 3.24 NOT DETECTABLE DUE TO COLOR OF OIL AGAIN
VI 166 189 178 M1, RLI, RLI

Car is now at 35K miles. This OCI saw mostly highway with avg RPMS around 4K, lots of heat hoping to keep things cleaner. Pure 1 oil filter and K&N drop in air filter (nasty cotton filters right?)

Any idea why the iron wear rate increased so much compared to the previous UOA?

What's up with the color of the RLI making the TAN unmeasurable?

JAG, the color is suspected to be influenced by continued cleaning and fuels degredation/alcohol from COs required ethonol. No idea why the FE is up beyond the harder driving than usual. Could also be soot influenced wear if you notice that uptick. We are keeping an eye on it and making adjustments to compensate. I will post the next UOA in 5K so we will see how that all works.

Rouge, I have refilled with another run of RLI 5w40 in at the moment with another Pure1 oil filter. I will sample at 5K OCI and decide from there how to proceed on my next fill or extended OCI. I have just enough of this batch to get a VOA and am giving that consideration, but will see how the next UOA is before justifying a VOA expense. I also have another sample I took to run another lab para to Dyson and I may go this route for the VOA. This last part to possibly go with interim analysis.

Color does not affect a true TAN by ASTM D-664, a potentiometric titration, but it will affect an Acid Value by ASTM D-974, which is a colormetric titration. Not sure what method they are using.
