This is on my disaster of a 1989 Wrangler. AX-15 transmission.

It's currently internal slave, will be converting it to external slave. I have the parts to do so.

Originally I was going to just buy a new throwout bearing, but honestly, this thing just wants to be in a junkyard. So I don't want to throw that extra $50 into it for a throwout bearing. I have the used one I want to regrease. What would be suggested for this?

The transmission has to come out over the winter again anyway for some body work. If it lasts that long and doesn't get scrapped by then, I'll put a new throwout bearing in it.

Most of the throwout bearings I've seen could not be regreased. You might as well have a new one handy in case you take apart the Wrangler and discover that's true for you too.

It's cheap insurance to replace it anyway.

One of those jobs that is too deep for screwing around.

True . but I will be taking the transmission back out in a few months to do some repairs to the body.

I can definitely see the rollers inside on this throwout bearing. It's one I pulled out of a junykard Jeep and it looks / feels in pretty good shape.

I would just use any quality LB_CG grease. Maybe a polyurea would be most ideal but probably only by a very small margin. I have Lucas Extra HD on hand and would use that most likely.
