I own a Lincoln Navigator and a Corvette Z06 these cars don't get much use. I might drive the navigator 5000km a year and the vette might go 10k a year. I have to change the oil perodically to maintain warranty, so can i take the oil out of these cars and put it in my civic or saab? The navi uses 5w20 syntec can i put that in my civic it requires a 5w20 i don't wanna waste good oil its still golden brown when it comes of the truck! The civic is a 03 so its out of warranty no worries there! The Z's oil i will put in my work trucks it takes PP 5w 30

O and i want to change the transmission fluid on the civic how do i go about it, do i fill through the dipstick its a auto, or is there a fill plug? i hear it has no filters?

I once reused oil in my car, but I poured it back through the dipstick hole so it wouldn't touch any other moving parts before going through the oil pump and filter.

Those aren't that low of miles. I say just use new oil and maybe use a bit of the used stuff in the mower, tiller. snowblower, compressor, pressure washer, genrator after filtering. The rest make sure it's properly recycled.

If it's anything like my car, it should have a service bolt that you use to drain it (my car only drains 3 of the 9 quarts) and then you refill it through the hole where the dipstick is. Mine doesn't have a filter. Of course yours might be different, but as far as I know, most Honda AT's are the same in terms of maintenance.

I am facing a similar dilemma. On my last DIY oil change, I didnt put the washer on and oil is dripping drop by drop from the plug. Its embarassing to have oil puddles under your brand new car. I want to fix it but that means draining perfectly good oil at 2000 km. Half of that oil is M1 leftovers I had before.

I think if you had a TP bypass filter in the donor vehicle your oil would be in great condition to use in another vehicle.

Back in the days my father inlaw used to get used oil from a shop buddy and never bought oil for his cars for years and years with no issues.

I did this the first time I changed oil in my wife's Sonata. I bought a 50 cent aluminum pan at the dollar store (new so it would be clean), drained the oil, put the crush washer on, then put a big funnel in the engine and poured the oil back in. Fixed the leak and didn't waste the oil.

I once did have to use my finger to plug the oil pan, after finding the drain plug washer in the bottom of my drain pan. I only lost about 1/8th of a L in the process of putting the washer back where it belonged.
