PYB or Castrol GTX

I think Walmart is selling the PYB in 4.4L jar...
If your car takes over 4L, go for PYB
If your car takes 4L or less, go for GTX
Both are good oil
I would take GTX over PYB!
GTX is the one of the best conventional oil out there, and it is more shear stable than PYB! There were a few OA on GTX with close to 10k miles and performs well!
 
ASTM D-5800 NOACK Volatility (June 2008):

Castrol GTX = 6.90% Weight Loss
Pennzoil 11.49% Weight Loss

It's hard to beat the big white jug at WM.
 
I've used both. I used GTX exclusively for a few years, then after finding this board I switched to PYB. I think my Camry runs much smoother on it. (but this is just the seat of the pants dino)
GTX is not a bad oil, but it is nothing special for the price.
PYB does a good job of cleaning with the dose of calcium it has.
It is a very robust oil. This being said, oil prices are creaping up at Wal-Mart. Enough so, that I'll probably step up to syn in my Camry. Great choice with the PP. I've been using it in my Windstar for a while now, and LOVE IT !!

BTW, Mobil Clean 5000 beats out both PYB and GTX in terms of NOACK Volatility and and Cold Cranking Viscosity.
 
Both are good.

I dislike the fact that Castrol limits the information on their product data sheets.

I like the Castrol 4 and 5 quarts jugs, as they are easy to pour and have good quality sealing caps for used oil disposal.

I like the new reformulated boron rich additive pack in Pennzoil.

I dislike the 4 and 5 quart pennzoil jugs as i find their caps are easy to strip out when putting them back on for carrying used oil, etc...

In my experience in the 10w30, Castrol is not as cold-weather friendly as Pennzoil is, as Castrol is blended to be a bit thicker.
 
For what it worth I posted a bunch of UOA's using Castrol GTX in my 1997 Chevy Tahoe. Blackstone Labs said it is the lowest wearing 350 V8 they have ever seen. Wear across the board is low single digits. GTX is the best dino ever made.

I had stellar results with it in my mom's 3.1 GM engine as well, all single digit wear metals. It's good stuff.
 
I take that under advisement but I trust the accuracy of Blackstone's particle numbers about as much as I trust well you know how the saying goes. I don't like to criticise services or products so GTX might give the lowest wear number but it's just not enough for me to want to use for other reasons.

I know what you mean about Walmart raising prices on PYB and QS. It's not quite to the level that I'm wiling to switch brands but it's getting there. What I do is keep my out for specials on Havoline/Chevron and Conoco Philips products.
 
I notice that Castrol claims to exceed all requirements whereas PYB, PP and most other regular and synthetic oils only claim to exceed some requirements while meeting others. Don!t know if there is anything meaningful to this or not but it certainly can give the impression that it is better as far as exceeding vs meeting requirements. All I know is that I have tried it in different cars and they all made more startup noise with it than any other oil I have used, even in the warm weather.

Interesting. Id wouldnt mind seeing that data myself, not that I into Dino but still interesting. Whats the reportted NOAK for Mobil Clean 5000?

Maybe I missed it but does Blackstone have a rep for not being accurate?

I don't know but I got a sense and some others felt that their numbers weren't the most accurate.
