FRAM prefers to call them fibre endcaps. Nonetheless it does its job. The cheapest FRAM-made product is the MotoMaster for just under $7 (6607). Nothing in my opinion justifies buying it at this price.

Does it need to be the ultra Fram? or does the TG work as a good equivalent?

I was a big Puro Classic fan for years since they were cheap, plentiful, and fit my needs just fine (~5k OCIs on conventional oil). After learning about all the media failures, I've started experimenting with similarly-spec'd filters from other manufacturers... currently have a few Denso, a couple of Supertech (Wix), and even a few of the Chinese-made Parts Plus filters on hand that should last me awhile.

RockAuto has Fram Pro for around $2 apiece, which I understand to be Extra Guard guts in a plain white can. Even so, I'd rather take my chances with Pronto/Premium Guard/FVP or the Parts Master-branded Wix which RockAuto typically has for about the same price or less.

You have the nostalgia and product recognition value of the orange can with a better build.

The only difference between an Orange and Silver can is the media, the adbv and the can paint color. Soon, the adbv will be the same.

The build won't be improved by doing what you suggest.
