There was a guy here that had an engineering background that was working with Puro after a filter failure (IIRC) but I haven't seen a post from him in a while.

Perhaps they do monitor, but i've seen no evidence that they do anything about what they see.

Yes, Jay takes abuse from supposed respected members on this board who troll for any of his posts and attack everything he says. They are basically trolls in disguise.

If Tearolator wants to come on here, admit their issues and their plan to fix it, ok. Otherwise they are wasting their time.

I also agree to the poster who said they ignore and block when you bring up and issue on their FB page. Real loser company.

Absolutely, but many pay attention to what's going onto their vehicles and choose shops based upon what products they use.

Dyusik: Same for me - an oil filter cut and paste is what first guided me here to lurking long before I ever joined the site. We may be a bunch of OCD nutjobs, but no one is going to find a site with more filter cut and pastes and UOAs and oil nitpicking than here. There certainly are varied opinions here, but at least they're generally well informed, with rubbish like "Pennzoil causes waxy buildup" and "Fram has cardboard endcaps" at a bare minimum.

I have always been a fan of Purolator products. I've used a lot of Motorcraft filters. On my personal vehicles, I've probably used more Motorcraft than all others combined, with the taxis being another matter, using mostly Wix. I also really liked the Bosch Premium, and before my online supplier went nuts on pricing, was hard to beat. What's not to like with high efficiency, silicone ADBV, and a price under $5, at least until QC went downhill? Purolator branded stuff is a bit hard to find here, of course, but it's not pleasant to see any major segment of the market having such issues. It doesn't do anyone any favours.

I definitely respect him for that. Obviously, any company out there can be subject to legitimate criticism and trolling. In some cases, it's hard to identify which is which, and I suppose that's why some companies simply don't respond much to anything when it comes to negative feedback. The internet amplifies things, and I'm sure their email box gets filled with things we couldn't imagine.

In case anyone knows, did Wal-Mart drop Purolator entirely because Fram made them such a sweet offer, or were return rates and liability claims on Purolator filters a factor? The loss of that much business should've been a big wake-up call for Purolator.

Before their quality declined, I used a lot of Purolator (and Purolator-made Kmart) oil filters. I usually ran them several times the distance now typically recommended for basic filters, dissected maybe half of them, and never found a single serious defect. They used to be a good value, especially when on sale for $1 or so.

Certainly Not 1.0%
Not .1%
More like .01%

Maybe some of the parts chains should monitor this site too, and see that Purolator filters as part of an oil change special might be cutting into sales. I've passed on a lot of oil change specials [which looked good until I saw the filter choice] because Purolator filters were part of the deal. No thanks. I'm sure I'm not the only person passing up on oil change specials because of the filter choices. Some of them allow for an upgrade to a Mobil 1 filter, if the price was right I'd jump in. Unfortunately most allow for an upgrade to a better Purolator filter, no thanks again.

I used to be a Fram basher - but after seeing Honda and Subaru use Fram for aftermarket service filters and the fact my parent's cars haven't blown up with an OCOD/Tough Guard, I'll use a Fram (or Wix, until M+H screws them up) if I can't get OEM.

It's funny how Mann's original products(MicroTop/EvoTop for European cars, supposedly Toyota cartridge ones are made in Germany as well) are still great, but Puro has tanked.

We may be 1% here, but I sure do spread the word to my friends. If everyone does that, Purolator will feel it.

I can't speak for the American experience, but in Canada, when Purolator briefly took over from Fram in our Walmarts, it was chaos all around, and few were happy. Walmart had stock, but none of my Canadian online suppliers had any Bosch Premiums left. Walmart was charging more than my traditional suppliers. Walmart Canada's filter sales took a nosedive, too.

Watching what? Me purchasing and using another manufacturer's filter because they are too inept or too arrogant to correct the smallest issue with their POS filters? I never really used Purolator (except for Motorcraft--which I had no idea at the time was made by Purolator) until joining BITOG and reading about everyone's good experience with them. Soon after, the tears began to crop up and I experienced 3 tears with one. With so many other brands on the market, I did not hesitate to switch brands and have not looked at Purolator since and never will.

What Motorcraft number did you experience three tears with?
If you don't recall the numbers, then list the vehicle, year and model?

Not a MC, it was a Purolator. If somehow my post was confusing that was not the intent. I never used Purolator (except for MC filters) until joining BITOG and I switched to Purolator One filters based upon everyone's experience. Soon after the switch, the tearing starting appearing in Purolator oil filters and here is my experience:

PL10241 with 3 Tears

It sounds like the problem is still not fixed, after all these years.
Should I take my 4 boxes of PureOnes and trash them?

I've got a Puro L14610 (red can) on my car with about 5K, gonna be swapping it out with a Denso 150-2004 soon. Looking forward to opening it up and seeing if mine transitioned to a Tearolator.

Recycle new filters, or give them to Purple Heart or Goodwill.
