Progressive snapshot program

I wouldn't do it. I am not surprised that Progressive would do this considering the political affiliations of its owner/founder (there is a reason it is called "Progressive"). I would never get insurance through Progressive even if it was half the cost of every other carrier.

I wouldn't simply because they would decide that I drive more than I am supposed to, or too fast or whatever and my luck means that my insurance premiums would increase even if they claim they will not. Their word does not mean very much to me. Anyone who lives in Metro Detroit and commutes during normal business hours will understand than less than 80mph on any given hwy is deemed unacceptable by the drivers surrounding you. It is so strange for me to drive in Florida where the old man lives. No one is ever in a hurry, I'm sure brake pads last twice and long.

NOT IN A MILLION YEARS----!
I don't like Progressive for a lot of reasons. I have been in the industry for 18 years and Progressive has pioneered a lot of new ideas that have raised premiums for all of us once the other companies followed suit. Plus, their founder is a radical socialist. Do a search and educate yourself as to the causes he supports. Lastly, do you really want people to know your whereabouts all the time? You don't think that that info can not be used against you in the right circumstance? Be wary------very wary.

ever hear of OnStar? its actually quite popular. helps find stolen vehicles and other things too. (im not saying this progressive device does this, im just saying your cars "whereabouts" are not always a bad thing to know)

i signed up for progressive a couple months ago actually. i considered this device for my grand prix, but once you get to point where you fill out the address to send the device, you can read the real "fine" print, which clearly states it CAN lead to an increase in your premium. even though the tv/radio commercials state otherwise. the information on it can also be used agaisnt you if you get into an accident while using it.

theres also a questionaire thing that helps you determine how much the device could save you. i basically learned from that thing that progressive doesnt want you driving more then 25 miles a day, doesnt want you driving between midnight-6am, and doesnt want you to exceed 60mph, ever.

OMG I commute home leaving at 1 am and into work (swing shift) to be there at 5am. They may not like that. I'm sober and the roads are empty to their benefit.

I have Progressive insurance and buy citgo gas, so I'm basically a commie, hahaha. But the price break they're promising works out to about a tank of gas in a year for me. No thanks.

Progressive screwed me when my car was destroyed by an underinsured policy holder. That said, my truck only gets maybe 1-2000 miles per year and sits in a garage the rest of the time. If I cod open a separate policy with them with minimum coverage, an umbrella coverage and a tracking device, I'd bet it would be cheaper than my current insurance...

Yes, there is On*star. I don't use it either. Don't think Progressive is doing this to save all y'all money!! Read the fine print. This is about surcharging some and discounting others. WOULD PROGRESSIVE DO THIS IF THERE WERE MORE DISCOUNTS THAN SURCHARGES? I WORK IN THE INDUSTRY--THESE COMPANIES HAVE STAFFS OF PEOPLE SITTING IN MEETINGS FIGURING OUT HOW TO 'MAXIMIZE' REVENUE. I know how these companies think. I go to their agent meetings. I talk to their field people. Be very wary of stuff like this. If they can prove you speed, they can surcharge you like you got a speeding ticket. The potential for misuse of information just has too much of a downside for my taste. If you drive a lot, or better said, drive more that average, I would warn you not to participate in this program or any other like it. Your potential for a rate increase is very real.

This kind of thing reminds me of credit card surcharges. When the surcharges were banned by merchant agreements, some gas stations simply raised prices and introduced the cash "discount". Others raised the price for everybody and treated it as a cost of doing business.

So if this thing takes off, I predict they will raise premiums across-the-board. Favored device users will get the "discount", and everyone else will get the sucker price -- a sneaky way to surcharge people.

Guess who started 'credit scoring' for insurance? ....take a wild guess. Now everyone else does it. It allowed companies to surcharge a lot more than any discounts they gave. If there was one company that I would avoid like the plague it is...take another wild guess.

you should avoid the advertising. All insurance companies are in it to make money. Of course they plan ways to creatively maximize revenues.

Skip Geico, too.
