You need the $50 oil filter cutter if you are going to get serious. Grinding or cutting with a saw gets to be a PIA after awhile. And I do not think you will find that much interesting in cut open oil filters. You can probably find cut open pictures of most oil filter brands on this forum.

What to use to cut it open ? What do you look for inside and can I tell if it's plugged up with particles not sludge?

I just want to see how these filters hold up on extended oci's in canada. It seems like alot of the posters on this forum are in the united states and we have different weather up here. Im curious about the honda A2 (which i mentioned in a previous post and this will likely be my last A2 that i use for a long while) but now im switching to hamp and i have yet to see any uoa's or cut open pics after fci on hamp filters so it will be useful data.

I have some tearolator pureones that i bought before i started hearing about the problems with the media. I still might run them on some short oci's to clean the engine out a bit and to use the filters up as well.

Yes i will be buying a filter cutter because im curious and ocd like most people who obssess over such trivial things as filters and oil lol

I made my own cutter with 2 bearings and 2 tubing cutter wheels and a drill press vice.
Probably have less than $10 in it.
Poke a hole in the top of the filter can with a nail and turn it upside down.
I'll take a picture of my cutter in a couple days and post it.

So youre saying you dont think 5-6 months of winter has an effect on the filter?

They don't fall apart in cold weather, it gets cold in Minnesota, Michigan and Alaska too...

Not sure, im not a lube engineer but service schedules are always recomended in the severe range in canada for some reason. Other than the weather there is no difference between the US and canada in terms of oil filters. Its not like we have sandstorms or something up here all the time

The reason is the oil, cold weather doesn't always allow for complete warm-up of the oil to drive off moisture or fuel. I see it all the time in my cars during the winter.

Cars in Canada have used the same oil filters as the US for over 100 years without issues...now you have decided it needs to be investigated??? Go get em Tiger!!!

Exhaust pipe cutters work OK too, especially if they have four cutting wheels and a four inch capacity for the larger filters. Takes about a 1/3 turn back and forth a few times and it start splitting the can.
Please do show the side view of the filter element out of the can, with the baseplate pressed on the ADBV, if you post pictures. Not just the parts by themselves. There hasn't been much info on the differences in ADBV function, and flow, that I can find easily, so it would be good info to compare the brands.

Not sure if youre able to read or not but if you are then you should be able to notice that canadian and US cars have different service intervals so what is your professional opinion why that is? Try not to strain yourself forming the words, id hate to be responsible for a brain aneurysm.

Also, oil filters didnt exist 100 years ago so that goes to show what YOU know.
