Wouldn't make sense with a catamaran config because you'd presumably put the engine in the middle of the bridge deck, but with a trimaran (IIRC this is the third hull) it might.
 
If you look at the tube shape of pontoon (deck) boats that’s just a cheap way to mobilize a patio. They take a fair amount of draft to provide buoyed payload … so a 3rd pontoon will assist on both draft and variable deck load.
Transit is another story

A body in a fluid is lighter in weight by an amount equal to that of which it displaces … that’s why barge shaped hulls are payload kings … but not speed kings …
