Playstation 3 HDD upgrade frustration

This topic doesn't fit neatly into any of the BITOG sub-forums but figured this was closest and certainly is the one that folks with an answer would frequent

Upgraded the 40GB stock HDD in my PS3 with a 250GB WD Scorpio from a dead laptop. Popped this drive in an enclosure to recover my files, then into the ps3. Formatted it using the ps3, and had trouble getting ps3 to boot. used system restore, finally got it to boot, but horribly slow and buggy and almost impossible to load games. Won't recognize my system backup file that I put on a thumb drive before swapping hdd's

Ideas? What the heck is wrong?

Hi.

If the hard drive is from a dead laptop...then the hard drive itself was dead in the first place? Maybe I am missunderstanding. Or maybe that hard drive just isn't fast enough.

the original ps3 used sata-1 hdd its possible it doesnt like your new one.

or the "new" one is bad
