Isnt rtv also the stuff you use on valve covers to cover the spots where pieces of the engine block come together? Where there is a “seam” in the otherwise contiguous sealing surface?

And is the one place I will use it, oh and other sealers can do the same that are not RTV.
The thing with RTV is the surface can have absolutely no oil or oil film at all for it to work correctly.
Just like using paint. There are other sealers that aren't that fussy.

RTV works very well if the surface is properly prepped.....and it isn't difficult.
