Hi there!

The term "moly" comes in many forms and when used in lubricants, it can be a solid or a soluble liquid. The typical "moly" that is used and soluble in motor oil is Molybdenum Dithiocarbamate (MoDTC) or Dialkyldithiocarbamate. One of its major function or use in motor oil is a friction modifier. However, it also may be used as an anti-wear and/or antioxidant.

Pennzoil does use moly in our formulations. It varies depending on the application/specification because reduction of friction is not dependent on moly alone. There are other types of friction modifiers out there that are not moly-based, thus high concentration of moly in a motor oil is not always beneficial to your engine. Motor oil requires a balance of detergents, dispersants, friction modifiers, viscosity modifiers and other critical additives to give you the complete protection for the extreme conditions that the engine goes through.

Pennzoil (Shell) use no Molybdenum additives in their 0W30 VW 504/507 oil. but it has +600ppm boron.

different additive blends for different oils.

Looking at PQIA,it looks like PYB has the moly cut in half from what it used to be. Looks like PYB and QSAD are almost identical.

Pure Plus Branded Shell Group oils are all G-III Gast to liquid based. With the base of coming from the PEARL plant in the UAE. Shell then send the base oil to their various refineries around the world (Locations include: Hong Kong, Thailand, Several in europe and the USA.)

There are two types of "Moly" : One with levels around 60 (the better quality version) and the other with a higher level around 250 (the lesser quality version) ... Molly experts know what I am referring to and can chime in . QSUD I believe has the lesser quality molly in the add pack while PP and PUP have the better quality molly in the add pack .

Yes, it would be Epic!

Somehow, somewhere, someone would blame Trump for it...
