You've hit the nail on the head there. So ironic that her supporters tend to have a persecution complex.

But do they really have a persecution complex are do they have legitimate things that they are opposed to? I'll tell you who seems to have a persecution complex, it's the PC pushers. They claim persecuted by a very word they use themselves all the time lol.

But what if this. Your employer fires you because they found out you own a gun (2nd amendment). Or fires you because you do not want to give them access to your facebook or other personal info (4th amendment). Or several other basis an some of which an employer is not suppose to base employment upon.

They wouldn't say this is the reason but it can be and is sometimes the reason for terminations. The difference here is they can admit that the reason is for something you said somewhere, sometime.

It's a general infringement on freedom and rights and just because a private individual is doing it, doesn't make it better.

The gov instituted PC or at least gives its seal of approval and is essentially infringing on freedom by proxy through private individuals who have the most influence over others. A good example is dating a work is now somewhat restricted. The main reason is because the gov instituted policy that made it an issue.

The employer has the right to fire the employee at will. They don't need a reason. I've owned my own business, so I've been on both sides.

That's what I was thinking. Last I heard Miss Deen was a Democrat. That's all irrelevant and really has no place in this discussion anyway.
I just saw Miss Deen on the Today Show and found her to seem to be very sincere and honest. She truly appears to me to be, as I've always thought, a decent, kind woman. I hope she can triumph over all this hypocritical garbage.

It use to be even if someone didn't necessarily agree or like what you said, they accepted your right to say it without suffering repercussions. Or it was a non-issue because it wasn't made into an issue. And people could laugh at themselves.

So what you have is something that should be a non-issue made into an issue due to PC.

It would be PC if you are not a public figure that relies on the reputation to make a living. I don't think she would be fired if she is just a manager that is not famous or on any program.

But she is a public figure that use her image to draw in customers and viewers. When her image is damaged, she's out.

Like I said, this is not the first time she show bad judgement. Her diabetes medication deal right when she announce she has diabetes (after cooking food that causes it for 3 years) is another example of her poor judgement. How many viewers who watch her shows thinking that it is ok felt cheated?

Even for a public figure it's still only a big issue because PC made it an issue.

And you don't have to be a public figure using your image or a political figure. You could just about be any kind of employee and with PC you can be fired for saying or doing non-PC things. The wrong commit could get you fired for "sexual harassment", or any other non-PC speech even away from work that comes to the attention of management. I've heard of people running into issues at work for things on their facebook and social media.

Post something non-PC on your facebook or say something to a work colleague even on lunch or after hours and see if it doesn't cause you problems at work.

First of all, she is "contract not extended". The employments are at will and it can be extended if the employer found it profitable (like Martha Stewart after her insider trading case). Like I said with the diabetes cover up and drug endorsement when revealing the condition, she has damaged her reputation and the N word remark years ago were just the straw that broke the camel's back.

I was in "training" under our corp policy and there are specific situations they covered and not covered. You will get fired if you break the law and is proven guilty outside of work, you will get fired if you violate company policies telling you specifically not to do something. i.e. running away from police and get on a company shuttle or building, forcing them to break into a secured environment to catch you, retaliate at coworker for wrong doing instead of reporting to supervisor or security, leaking work information via Internet (complaining about boss is a leaking of work information), violating the no discrimination policy while under employment regardless of ethnic, nationality, gender, etc also get you fired (this includes minority accusing everyone outside of her ethnic group for being a redneck and uncivilized). However, if you are a minority and are last promoted due to performance reason, then it is not a "discrimination", they specifically emphasize that.

Company policies I've read say if you are not sure, consult your manager first. If you are trying to "hit" on your coworker, and she tell you to stop, it is not harassment. However use common sense on what to do and what not to do.

The point is, management cannot just fire you for something that most people agree are not discrimination or sexual harassment or security violation, they would get sued for that. This doesn't means you are not allowed to blog about your religious believe, political orientation, sexual preference, etc outside of work toward non coworkers.

This doesn't means they cannot fire you if you becomes a liability for the work place by drawing in too much negative publicity for the employer. I believe this is why Paula Deen's contract was not extended.

I know how PC really works and its real motives and intentions. I won't get into that on here. PC is basically intolerance and (reverse)discrimination.

Employers can generally fire you for any reason except for protected reasons, which being non-PC is not a protected class. Besides employers don't reveal their true reasons and trump up other reasons to protect themselves. If you are in the majority or not a certain favored minority class, you will almost never win a employment discrimnation lawsuit regardless of the evidence you have.

Hiring, promotion, and retainment in employment has become very politically based today.

You just have a different mentality, if you think it's acceptable that you should have to go ask your manager or the hive what's acceptable. Maybe in communist countries you walk on egg shells and toe the line, but that's not how it use to be in a free country.

She never claimed that her cooking was this panacea of healthy living....she didn't cheat anybody out of anything. If an individual is ignorant enough to think that gobs of animal fat is healthy....then that's the way it goes. Darwin's law you know. Can't understand why her diabetes has anything to do with what she likes to cook. It's her life.

umm...what on earth does that non sequitur have to do with anything? Sure, she didn't kill anyone? Last I checked, she wasn't facing murder charges either?

Her employer elected non to renew her contract, based on her actions (not only of what she said, but how she acted subsequently). Last time I checked, that's their right. While some on here may view the reaction to her comments as "overly PC", I have news for you, the overwhelming majority of Americans probably don't see it that way. At least I imagine that how her employers see it.

Regardless, it doesn't matter what I think or you think--it matters what her employers think. Last time I checked, there's no unalienable right for a TV personality to have his or her contract renewed, unless I'm missing something?

There are many double standards out there fo sho. I personally hate all the sensitivity these days, but I'm not surprised by it.

My humor tends to be very sarcastic and I do find racial humor hilarious. I like Dave Chappelle. In my family we make fun of pretty much anyone. I'm Italian, French, Polish and English.

I don't know anything about this woman.

In Paula Deen’s case, she came from a wealthy family that owned a lot of slaves - and she tried to hire a bunch of black men to essentially play the part of slaves for her daughter’s wedding, and she referred to them as “n*****s”. And she said that she uses the word all the time, what’s the problem?

You can’t see why people are offended? Then you’re missing basic, normal perception and empathy.
