Paul Newman was one of the last real movie stars. He started as a
young male lead, a pretty boy, but had sense enough to realize that wouldn't last, and had ambition to do better. H e took acting chances, playing a Mexican bandit in "The Outrage," a washed-up prizefighter in "Hemingway's Adventures as a Young Man," and more. He aged gracefully, and (particularly odd for Hollywood, where marriages last about as long as mayflies do) remained married to Joanne Woodward for something like 50 years.
A lot of young actors today would do well to emulate him.
