Oversize filter ?

I was lurking around a Toyota 4Runner forum and they gave a few listings of some oversize filters for my 06-V6 4Runner and I was wondering can running an oversize filter have any negative effects if it fits fine? And also the filter I got is a Motorcraft FL400S and I was wondering are todays Motorcraft filters any good?

Negative on the negative effects,all pluses if you have one for your app go for it!

and Motorcraft filters are good,there Purolator classics with a ford logo

If you search back in the oil filter section, someone put on an oversized Pureone on their Tacoma 4.0L and seemed to be happy with it.

i put a big Baldwin on my Yaris and the VVTi didnt work correctly. It shouldnt make a diff, but it did. I currently run a oversize wix (the one for the camry 2.4L) and that does OK.

I do the larger filter on my vehicles as possible. I am not sure it will make a difference considering most people sell their cars before ever being able to tell if the filter made any difference.

I've been running the big 440 size filter on my 4.7 since new instead of the stock size and everything has been cool.

I have seen several oversized filters for my Tacoma (3RZ) and wondered this same thing. Perhaps next change I'll go bigger...

Edit- I've been using Toyota OEM filters, but as an example, the Fram PH3614 is the filter listed for my truck, but the PH3600 is identical in every way (diameter, thread pitch, releif valve PSI) except for being over 1.6 inches longer. I think I'll just cross reference it to a purolator and go for it.

I run a larger filter on on all my cars. PF52 on the GN, EAO20 (s-2000) on the TL. The stock TL's EAO 13 on the Murano which as tiny as it is, is still larger than the Murano's stock filter.

I've been running oversized filters on my Toyota (and undersize for my Ford) and they have no effect.

Ya. Likely no real effect unless you run pretty extended filter mileage.
I've personally never been able to see an after-filter oil pressure gauge difference with different filters.
