I got something like 44 quarts at $2 each. Been in a heated garage their whole life.Yes, that appears to be 2018. I'd use them after giving them a good shake.
Wow thanks everyone for the quick replies. I think I'll like it here. I just did a drain and fill with it. Shook the crap out of the containers. Then cut then open, no sludge or build up. I've been using the universal castrol atf/cvt , but when I saw the deal I had to get it. 2018 is older than my car lol.It meets most/all of the latest MFGs spec.
I’m sure it’s fine sitting on a shelf.
My thinking is:
“If CVT fluid or any ATF can sit in a tranny for years, I’d think it can hang around on a shelf even longer.”
Yeah I've been running the castrol universal stuff in my 2019 civic coupe ex-t since 20,000 miles. At 78,000 now. Was just never able to get my hand on the original stuff. I've actually experimented a few time with the hcf-2 compared with the castrol. I've noticed the castrol for whatever reason feels way better, and provides a smoother drive, and I swear more torque.I used a ton of that in a well used and abused '15 Altima. Good stuff; I liked it better than the Valvoilne.
Yeah the red color has never bothered me. I've always trusted and used castrol for decades now. Atleast since 2001. Been running castrol edge 0w20 basically since the 3rd oil change on my car. Prior to that it was whatever honda uses. I worked at a honda dealership off and on since 2016, and never bothered to ask who we get our oil through. As for the cvt fluid I picked up, I just hope it's not too old and potentially causing damage. I used to only drive stick, unfortunately my back condition is to the point where shifting hurts. Plus I wanted a coupe, and as an employee I couldn't pass up a 2019 ex-t with only 10,000 miles for 23,000 bucks lol. Since it's my first ever cvt I want to make sure I keep the fluid fresh. Typically do a drain and fill twice a year. Have been since 20,000 miles, and besides a few experiments going back to oem honda hcf-2 it's always been castrol transmax universal atf/cvt. This is my first time using their discontinued cvt only fluid. Impossible to find in stores, so when I saw a local garage was closing up shop and had a bunch of this stuff leftover and at $2 each I figured why not, give it a shot. Is it different from the new stuff ? It must be somehow if the new stuff also works in traditional automatics. Just really hope I haven't screwed myself haha. Recent changed the pre filter, the o rings, the pan filter, and the pan gasket too. I have emailed castrol both their usa office, and their overseas office, asking what they think, and why they discontinued it in the first place. No response yet, but that was late Friday night, so we'll see if they get back to me.Yes, it is OK to use. It is red in color, but that won't cause any problems at all![]()
Those were the more rounded bottles, then they went to the more squarish bottles with a window on the side. I used a lot of it in my Civic with BG 303 and began using it on my Accord before swapping over to Redline CVT Fluid. How much did you get them all for? If you have the time and equipment, I would try to do a gasket and filter, pan swap and replace total capacity ; if not, i would get a clean gallon jug and box them together and use this plethora of quarts to get a few drain and fills. It looks like you've got about 28 to 30 quarts, so in that fashion I would be willing to sacrifice at least 10 quarts to get everything all cleaned up and then work yourself into a maintenance regiment with the remaining ones. If anyone here can translate the manufacturer date and such I would have them help you do that and then try to use the oldest ones first and buy boxing them all together very similar to how painters do with paint do you keep a more consistent the fluid.New here, I recently acquired a bunch of castrol transmax cvt. I'm curious about the date, and if it's OK to use? I'm assuming that date means 2018? Thanks. View attachment 246177View attachment 246178
That's so odd. I get mixed signals when talking to castrol lol. I emailed them awhile ago too about why they discontinued magnetec and why they took the fluid titanium out of edge. It seems like the oil for the north American market is different from the rest of the world or something? If you were local to Central VT I would just GIVE you 3 quarts. Hell...even 6 quarts. It's old stuff but seems fine. It was stored properly so I'm just going to assume it's still good? I'd just use the new stuff, it's compatible with the old stuff. According to castrol.I use that in her 15 Altima. Have done 3 changes on it so far. Little over 104K miles on car/cvt. I can’t find it locally anymore as the universal fluid is taking over. I have one bottle left, need 3 more for another change in a few years.
When I emailed Castrol they said it wasn’t being replaced by the universal fluid but that was it ver a year ago.
Looking to sell 3 bottles??![]()
Haha. I appreciate it. I wouldn’t worry about running it if I had it, regardless of the ageThat's so odd. I get mixed signals when talking to castrol lol. Me too!I used a ton of that in a well used and abused '15 Altima. Good stuff; I liked it better than the Valvoilne.
