My mother in law has a 2009 Forester with 90K Miles. I checked the manual and it says anything from 5w30 to 10w50 in the summer.

I don't know much about Subaru's but I recall someone saying Rotella t6 is great in them. Would this be the popular opinion for a somewhat modern Subaru?

RT6 is generally a favorite for the WRX/XT crowd. It may be a little thick for a lightly-driven, non-turbo EJ25; I've always had good luck with 5/10W30s in mine, both EJ251 and EJ253, which is what your MIL has. If you're looking to stay fairly inexpensive but not cheap out on protection, QSUD 5W30 checks all the requirements of her car. Then, just use an XG7317 or Napa Gold 7055 and she's all set!

M1 EP 5-30 and Fram Ultra filter at 10k oci has been solid for me in my 17 OB 3.6.

M1 5W30 with the $12 rebate. $23 at Walmart plus a Wix filter. But really, mine has 255,000 miles running whatever 5W30 was around.

I used GC 0W-30 in our '09 for a while.
The current fill of M1 HM 10W-30 seems to work well.
If you look at the temp/visc chart in the OM, just about any grade you can think of is okay at the right ambient temperature, even SAE 30 or 40 or the dreaded 20W-50 grade.
Run whatever you want.
In PA, any 10W-30 would be a good choice and with the current rebate, M1 HM is a no-brainer.

T6 is great oil but you need ab extra quart because it comes in 4 quart jugs. Try one these instead, Castrol 03087 EDGE Extended Performance 5W-30 Advanced Full Synthetic Motor Oil, 5 Quart or Castrol 03101 EDGE 0W-40 A3/B4 Advanced Full Synthetic Motor Oil, 5 quart. My Subies like both of them and the price is good at $25 or less delivered with prime.

My '09 Forester seems to like Castrol black jug 0W-40 the best in terms of engine quietness and lowest oil consumption. I tried M1 High Mileage 5W-30 for 3 intervals, just burned it up at 1-1/2qt per 5K miles.

Hi Guys, I actually went with Shell Rotella 5w30 Gas Truck since it has the $10 rebate. I've used up all my rebates for Mobile 1 and Pennzoil for the year. Combined it with a Fram TG7317

Looks like the factory filter is equivalent to the 6607 not the 7313. Just more filtering capacity right?

I believe it's just the size of the filter, 7313 being the larger of the two.
