Been a bit busy and haven't kept up with the recent Fram FE outrage, so I don't know where we are with those. I've been using FEs for a while now for quality and convenience, but I don't need to get my filters from Walmart.

10,000+ mile intervals

Where are we looking now?

Carquest Premium
Amsoil EoA
Fram Titanium
Fram Endurance

The cost isn't a concern because a few dollars spread over 10,000 miles is irrelevant.

Even spread over 5000 miles its irrelevant!

Personally I’m no longer comfortable with Fram or Champ Labs made filters. For 10k I’d use Carquest Premium, Microgard Select, or any PG made equivalent.
The endurance is fine but seeing really bad pleat spacing and sometimes media tears in the non wire backed ones like the updated titanium, and ultra or the old tough and extra guard is valid.

Every Endurance I’ve cut recently has a leaking bypass leaf spring seal. Dirty oil can be in constant bypass.

"For me", I'd have to eliminate the two Champ Labe made filters, Amsoil and Endurance because of the seal area leak issues. IDK, what "all" Titanium applications are now, thinking many now most like Ultra XG. Unimpressed with XG. So, CQ BLUE would be my choice.

Maybe many lesser not advertised in miles on the box would suit you, depending on how your filters look inside at 10k.

machinery lubrication notes filters are as important as oil choice so just change the filter in the middle of your oil change interval! been using pure one filters, small like others so an xtra change is good IMO + cheaply done if you DIY it!! + as the oil geek notes prefill the filter, saturating the media even if it needs to be drained into s clean glass measuring cup, just pour back into the engine as i have done if needed

Why not the Fram Tough Guard? I have acouple of these to use up and some Carquest Premiums also. I run these filters for 10K OCIs. Two 5K OCIs to be precise.

Asking what filter to use without telling us the application is only half the picture.

If you have an engine known for sludging, or do a lot of stop/go in high heat areas which would increase oxidation concerns, then maybe a high-holding-capacity filter might be a good idea.

But there are plenty of "normal" filters which can easily go 10k miles on a healthy engine and not have one ounce of concern. I've repeatedly run Fram EGs 10k miles and they looked fine upon being cut open. My applications don't tend to stress the filters, so it's no big deal. (Fusion 2.5L and Taurus 3.5L engines are known to run fairly clean).

No Endurance made has media without the wire backing. And pleat spacing doesn't really matter on a filter with wire backed media.

I was intending this to be a more generic topic. Specific applications should be investigated as such.

My situation, a dirty hemi and a high strung turbo 4 cylinder, I'm just not going to use an EG. My personal preference.

In my fortunate situation, they both use the same filter.

The right way to understand how well a filter is doing is to run it in the application and then do some PC tests on the oil, as well as cutting the filter open for some visual observations.

It's not unlike using a UOA to assess oil condition and performance. You gotta test things rather than guess at things if you want accurate info for any specific application.

The engines in my personal fleet of cars tend to be very easy on oil, so sludge and particulate matter are not a big issue. I've successfully run EGs 10k miles with no problems. As you note, other applications may be a stretch at that distance.

Perhaps you stopped reading at the word ones since I attributed the non wire backed ones to the new updated titanium and ultra and the same old tough and extra guard as the ones that're likely to have pleat spacing and media tear issues. It's why I said the endurance is good to use but not the titanium. The carquest is a solid filter although it's not wire backed but has good high pleat count high filtration media with good spacing with a metal seam. But glenda w brought up a good point that they can leak from the spring.

I have no idea what that means, is there an importance rating? Like which is most important, yeast or flour in bread?
