I think you wanted to let everyone know you were privy to some secret info (that "sure lots of people know about it"). You are only half a Loose Lips safeguarding a known secret.

I'm sure most folks here are going W T F is he talking about?!?

some people just need to feel they 'know' something others don't.

He made me swear. He made me swear before he told me what it was that that he wanted me to do. ....He made me swear

(yes, I'm aware of "it"

He made me swear too, but did DSFM make any tangible difference in your mileage?

It did absolutely, ZERO, ZIP, ZILCH, NADA for my mileage...

I guess you don't know the secret handshake.

Just to follow up (even though the original topic left the building long ago) after last week's ~800 mile round trip, the oil's only about 1/10 qt down from where it was (judging by the crosshatches on the dipstick .. so it's approximate of course). So it looks like the faster consumption isn't continuing as a trend, at least not yet.

Hi, long time lurker. I also have a 2007 Civic EX, with about 43,000 miles on it. I drive it down to 30% on the OLM which is usually about 8000-8500 miles, and in all that time no oil consumption (PP 5w-20).

Nice. With that mileage on the OLM I'm gonna guess it's an auto trans with most driving in fifth gear on the highway. Right?

About 75% highway, 90 miles round trip to work. I'm averaging about 34 mpg and yes its an automatic. Very simple car to maintain

Thought I'd update with my latest findings:

I drained my fill of GTX 5w-20 after 6300 miles last weekend (no UOA this time). For this last OCI I specifically paid attention to how much I filled it, and documented each time I added oil within the OCI (twice). Based on how much I added and the oil level on the dipstick at change time, the car burned about 1 qt in 4600 miles or so. I don't figure that's enough to worry about at all. I guess I'll stick with GTX for a while.

My Forester burns around half a quart in 6k miles (PP 5w30). My crv used to burn about the same with Amsoil xlm. My civic si (04 4-door sedan si with 1.7litre) was given two oci's per year with amsoil 5w30 (asl I believe) and I never added oil to any oci and don't remember consumption ever being an issue, but that was a few years ago and I don't remember watching consumption very closely... I drove that car pretty hard right off the lot.. what a lovely automobile that was.
