Ever since I bought my motorcycle, my 2003 Matrix (1.8l 2ZZ) has pretty much sat still. I last changed the oil in 4/08 and have only put about 1700 miles on it since. Most of those miles have simply been trips to the dump and some short interstate trips to get the oil to temp. Current fill is a mix of GC green and gold. I had planned on switching to PP my next oil change and may even drop it to a 5W20 instead of 5W30 or 0W30. The vehicle currently has about 72,000 miles so it is well out of warranty.

I guess my concern is time vs mileage. I really can't bring myself to dump the GC at less than 2500 (est mileage at 5 mths). Any real harm in leaving it in until the full 5k? At this rate, it's gonna be a year, although usage may pick up during the winter months. Any harm in doing the same with the PP and running it 5k or 1 year?

A year seems to be a common time limit from new car manufacturers if you don't hit the mileage limit. If you get the oil to temp frequently when you do drive it, I don't see how a year could be a problem.

Generally I would agree with this, but with the following caveat:
  • Change oil filter if media is non-synthetic

Reason is that non-synthetic media will degrade faster during use than synthetic media.
