I had a thread months ago asking about cooper ST maxx then goodyears silent armor.
Now I'm thinking to shoot for the bfg ko2's but like the tread pattern spacing of the cooper discoverer ATP's.

LT265/70r17 e rated is the size I will be getting.

Anybody running the cooper ATP?

I've had three sets of ko's on my Cherokee and loved them. On my Tacoma the regular ko did well.

I'm just concerned with if the cooper atp has a 2ply sidewall or three?

Price for the ko2 is just over $1,000.

Discounttire.com has the Cooper's for just under $900.

Thoughts?

I have purchased several sets of 265/70/17 KO2's from America's/Discount Tire for about $800 when taking advantage of the $100 rebate card sale(s). You should be able to get the KO2's for less than $900 if you shop around.

I love the BFGs, have a set of the KOs on my Jeep. 2nd set. When these wear out/age out it'll absolutely get a set of KO2s, with the extra couple bucks.

I've got 30K miles on 265/65-17 E ATPs on my GMC Duramax. Still lots of tread left (haven't measured) and we do a fair amount of towing a small 5th wheel short and long distances. They hold balance and are wearing evenly, I get them balanced/rotated at 10k. Can't comment on their off road or mud ability but they drive nicely on pavement and dirt roads. Only comment is they hold small rocks in the tread forever, every so often I'll take a few minutes and pry them all out with a screwdriver. I replace tires early so expecting another 20K and I'll buy another set without reservation. The ATP is a Discount Tire exclusive model so you aren't going to find it elsewhere.

My local wally world has douglas on sale. 225 16's for $59 !!

Douglas is a private label kelly goodyear tire.

I have seen 3 sets of them recently, all good.. and it is a m+s rated tire.

The last incarnate of this tire had a different tread pattern.

It turned my grand prix with trac ctrl. anti lock br. equipped. into a snow mobile. for real...

Were running three sets of KO2 tires in severe service. One set on a 250 power stroke in the exact size you mention (load range E), another set on a different f250 (also E load but not sure of size), and a set on a suburban. All are doing great. These trucks are used to haul loads nearing 4000# up and down steep grades and with challenging curves.

No complaints.

I'll be putting a set on my S10 ZR2 at home too.

Is the sidewall ply 3 or 2 for the e rated for the cooper atp?

Because I know it is I think for the ko2 but maybe they even went to 2ply sidewalls?

This is the Load Range E BFG KO2 in your 265 size on the powerstroke F250:

if you loved bfg ko's might as well go with the improved version.

If you can wait for presidents day you can save around 160$-230$ based on prior years.

If you're looking for severe duty tires I'd go with the KO2s. The ATPs were meant to be a price point E tire for DT I was told by one of the counter guys. My son put over 60K on a set on a 2500 Silverado that was used delivering construction supplies and pulling a small trailer, that's what led me to try a set. The tread pattern works well on hard and dry but it looks like it would be pack up and be slick in mud or snow.

If it does well on a big truck like the f250 then I don't see why it won't do great on my 1500.

I just might get them in a few weeks or less.

Though the open tread of the ATP is why I wanted to see about the cooper discoverer atp tire. I read that wet road traction is better with the ATP. Due to the tread channels

Got about 40,000 miles out of my BF Goodrich all terrains on a Cummins powered Ram rotating every 5K miles. Not bad, lighter vehicles would tend to get more I would think.

But was that with the new design of the ko2 or the original KO?

Previous KO, the new KO2 are supposed to be even better.

i have 285-70-17 ko2 on my 08 mega cab cummins. they are NICE, rather quiet. a lot better snow traction then the ATP's. i don't think i'll get 50K out of them.
i have 285-70-17 ATP's on my 04 QCLB cummins. i bet i'll get an easy 50-60K out of them. they are a little noisy. great in rain, not so great in the snow after 40K.

i'm going to look at the cooper st-maxx in a 225-80-17 for my next tires on the 04.

my 04 is a wood cutting truck, and i've never hurt the coopers. they area fine tire for out in the woods. i've never torn a sidewall, even though i have free replacement on them.

i think in the rocks, the KO'2 are a better ride.
i run the same air on both trucks. 60F 50R.

in reality, they are both good tires.
