ON, Canada eh?
My old Kenmore Vacuum died and it's ok because I only paid $10 for it at a Garage sale over a year ago. I took it apart and it looks like someone mangled with it before I got it.

Anyways... I'm thinking about replacing it with a Shop-VAC because that way I can use it for spills and general vacuuming.

There is no carpet in my apartment other than some small area rugs so it would be ideal IMO.

CTC has the stainless steel 5 Gallon (18.9L) one on for $59.99 this weekend so I'm thinking about getting it.

My folks have a Dyson and the thing is freakin' awesome but I don't have that kind of money to spend and I would be too scared to own something that expensive and not be able to do UOA's on it!

Thoughts?

The filter is expensive, you may want to use a discarded pantie hose to cover the filter and clean it every 10-20 hours of use, it will double the life of the filter.

I've been using my two Electrolux (one canister and one upright) for the past 25-years and the darn things won't quit so I don't know about any other brands.

Many thanks for that advise I will go to the dollar store and get a cheap pair. Do you know if it prefers any colour?

J/K, great advice though...

This one is an actual "Shop Vac" and it says on the box, quieter operation but doesn't say how many DB.

I bought it because it's versatile wet/dry and can blow as well also because they are pretty well built, don't complain like the home vacuum's seem too and the price was right and it's stainless steel. If I get a couple years out of it I will be happy. Even if it is loud the noise doesn't bother me and I only have 1 neighbour in this new place and they are hard of hearing...

Got a Dyson at Costco 3 years ago after several mediocre units from various brands and now I won't buy a different brand again. It cleans better than any vacuum I've ever used, no bag & actually doesn't lose suction.

We have a 10 year old Kirby G5 that still works well. It's getting a little rough around the edges, but still vacuums just as well as it did in the beginning. Also recently picked up a Craftsman wet-dry vac. Can't remember which one it is but it's a decent size.

ohhhh Yeah. I haven't checked but I think this one was over $1k at the time. Got it because they are supposed to get rid of dust mites, and at the time my mom had terrible asthma.
