Doug has one view point which is to keep the OE oil in thru to the oil change interval.
It is possible break in oil is in the engine.
If it was mine I would change it just to make sure particals are not circulating thru the engine. To each their own......

If manufacture specifically states that keep factory fill until time to change oil at normal interval (or reduced interval if driven under severe conditions), Honda is one of those, then you should follow the recommendation. Otherwise, you can change early or at normal interval.
Modern engine assembly is much better than 20 years ago, very few contaminates can get in the engine during assembly.
My '00 E430 had first oil change at 13k miles when FSS went to 300 miles passed 0. My '04 S2000 had first oil change at 3500 miles (6 months) because it was driven mostly in city less than 5 miles trips.
If Prius was mine, I would change oil at normal interval.

Wouldn't your parents be the one deciding what they're going to be putting in and more importantly, your dealership usually takes care of the first oil change if not more? I believe you use what your manual and dealership wants you to use which is a 5w30?; that is if you are interested in keeping your all-important warranty.

I changed my Nissan factory oil at 1000. Now one could tell me if there was a special break in oil so i just did it.

+1 for the change it now. Particulates and I think there would be fuel dilution due to engine still breaking in (not yet full efficiency) coupled with the multiple starts cycles hybrids do.

Why would any manufacturer recomend leaving factory fill in for X amount of time??? What could happen if you changed it early? Absolutely nothing!
I change at 1k or even 500 miles on new vehicles.
My old 1990 K2500 chevy 5.7 is still on the road with nearly 400k on it!

Change it at 2k, then again at 3k, then whatever the manual says from then on.
1 - Insure there is not a special break in oil in the crankcase.
2 - If not, Id say change it out ASAP.
I bought a brand new car in '05 (had 3 miles on the odo) which did not include a special break in oil and did my first change at ~350mi, then again at 1500mi and again @ 3k mi. I saw the first two changes as a "rinse" cycle.
You only break in your engine once - why risk it.
Oil is cheap. Engines are not.
