Typically, noobs don't ask meaningful questions. Reading through many posts by Molakule in the technical threads and such from years gone by will teach folks much more than many are willing to learn. Their posts probably won't have to be moved anywhere.

A new member just registered so that he can post a UOA. It would be nice if it could be moved to the UOA section.

If he posts it in the New Member forum it will be moved to the UOA section once he becomes a full member.

I REALLY like this new member forum! It allows those new folks to introduce themselves and for us BITOG veterans to get to know them....just like many other boards do. The benefits are obvious!

G-man, excellent idea! !!!!!!!

I don't like forum members who are ignorant but unaware that they are so. Dumb and know it: that's fine. Smart and don't know it: fine too. Smart and know it: fine as well. This new policy may help the truly ignorant realize their ignorance before they have a chance to fill up the real forums with a bunch of poo.

I think this is a good idea but, if I was a betting man, my money would be on this lasting 2 - 3 months before the mods get sick of dealing with the extra administrative overhead this will cause. Also 50 posts seems too high. It shouldn't take that long to figure out if someone's worth their salt or not.

Two thoughts. One is that lube tech is pretty specialized and walk-ons who know their stuff is a RARITY. Second is that links to Serch and the Tech Section should be right there on their Forum for new members to use. How could they complain, they have their OWN Forum! I'm sure that seperating the new members will have a positive effect on the quality of the responses they get, since there is no pretense of them knowing more than they think they do. (did I say that right?) Anyway, soon semi-new members will join veterans helping out the newest guys and things should gell.

It might actually encourage people to join and post if they have a specific forum just for them w/o any pressure to be expert. From looking atthe new posts there, that seems to be a possibility.

Also, the Oil Industry Forum is much welcomed. It should include other energy sources and industries too, but that's nit-picking.

Well I am gonna say this and it is gonna make some upset with me, but this new members forum is ridiculous. It's like there behind the glass saying come talk to me so I can get in. It's like a PET STORE. or worse this censorship is getting a little socialist...

50 posts. HA! I now know what the G in G-Man stands for...I would post it put were not allowed to discuss deity's and yet this thing is commander of our ship...

Your little spinning emblem is that suppose to symbolize your twirling bobbie stick!

Congratulations. This post and the one you made in the New Member forum has gotten you Read Only status.

It will be interesting to see how this all works out. I do enjoy the noobs though. They are entertaining and fun. I am still a bit of a noob. I have always believed that every noob question is an opportunity to educate. Obviously noobs still have the ability to ask questions and post comments, but only in one area, the new member forum. Some veteran BITOGers will likely hang out there to help. However, I do believe that the limited access will make it more difficult for noobs to become involved in the wide range of discussions involving more experienced members than if they had access to all forums. The only discussions that they will be able to participate in are those created by noobs. I believe that this will likley cause many noobs to become frustrated with only being able to participate in discussions created by other noobs and will likely leave BITOG before posting any significant number of times. But, time will tell, and I could be wrong. I do recommend consideration of a lower number of posts than the approximate 50 that has been proposed for graduation. 25 sounds better to me because finding, generating, or participating in 50 meaninful posts in the noob area will likely be quite a challenge, especially in the first few months of the new area's existance. Best of luck.

I think the new member forum is a good idea, But 50 posts seems a little excessive.

Please quit obsessing about the 50 posts. I made it clear that was a "general" figure and that if someone shows themselves to be a responsible poster they will be made a full member IN WHATEVER NUMBER OF POSTS IT TAKES TO SHOW THAT.

I wasn't obsessing about it and I clearly understand what you're saying.

Not that G- man or anyone else asked for, or requires my opinion(or apparently anyone else's) I think it's a silly idea and that's all I'ss say. I don't want to be banned myself.
