Have an ‘08 BMW 550i with 245k miles. Changed the original compressor out on it 5k miles ago with a Denso unit purchased from Rockauto and it has since developed a rattly, ticking sound. The old one used to do it intermittently and I was hoping the new compressor would put in an end to it—my question is if this is normal for Denso compressors or do I need to warranty this sucker out?

If it is rattling when the clutch is not engaged chances are it has a bad bearing in the clutch or the clearance is off. Warranty it.
No clutch on these compressors. It’s one of those variable displacement compressors that’s always going. It varies when I switch the AC on and off however. It’s loudest after it’s warmed up. Doesn’t make noise when cold.
