picking up my "brand new" 6.0 GMC gas motor on Friday from my BIL's shop.

No holds barred, better than new rebuild. Bored, tons of new parts and my BIL's famous 5 angle valve job. I know it's just for work but she is going to be sweet! Absolutely nothing that was even possibly questionable was re-used, really nice work!

Just for those here who care it will get Valvoline dino for about a hundred miles or so then whatever synthetic is on sale in a 30w changed by the OLM.

Heck Steve, I`d just stay with the VWB. : )

Not if you saw the hospital clean room where this engine was assembled. My BIL runs the most stunning shop in the southeast.

This is many times better than brand new.

I would run dino at least 1500 miles to properly break in piston rings. Especially if they are moly.

It gets a lick and a promise but no formal balancing was done. The stock cam is being used with a 6000 rpm redline.

Two choices. One is any van I have that develops a need, the other is my Silverado 5.3 for a big torque upgrade.

Then there's my son's project car...

Supposedly there were pics, but that is all on my BIL. We'll see, I pick it up Friday AM.

Hospitals are not clean. You mean Class 10 Cleanroom.

The upgrade in that Silverado would be my choice. But I know you`v got vans to keep rolling too.

Is it getting the updated cam and cam bearings?

Was it rebuilt because the roller lifter's wheels became scored?

Enjoy

This engine had 225k miles or so on it. It developed low oil pressure due to the pressure relief valve sticking in the pump output. This scored the first main and the crank but was easily ground out.

We re used the cam as it was fine, but ALL valve gear is new except the "unkillable' factory rocker arms. New cam bearings were installed.

Sounds like a sweet motor. I love the 6.0L..got the high output 345hp version in my 2006 Sierra Denali crewcab with 4.10's and AWD. The truck is surprisingly fast and tows my RV with authority.

I don't understand that part

When a 3rd generation mega picky machinist inspects the part and says it's ok you accept his professional recommendation and move on. These engines are all well cared for with synthetic oils and regular changes by the OLM so near zero wear is a norm around here!

We re-used the crank, too!!!
