That's one of the problems with the Internet. It tends to magnify the problems because the tons of happy owners are not posting everywhere, just the unhappy folks.

We run a fleet of 6.0/6.2/5.3's here in Savanas and Silverados. The engines typically run 'forever', with forever defined as far in excess of 250k miles which is longer than we usually keep them.

I have an 04 working every day that is rapidly coming up on 500k miles! No leaks, no oil consumption, and it runs perfectly.

I vote for putting the 6.0 in your 1/2 ton Silverado. You won't regret it.

One of my favorite trucks, which is saying something since it's not a 1990s Ford, is the Sierra 1500 Vortec High Output which came with an LQ9 6.0. One of the best factory sleepers of the 2000s.

If you put it back in a van, just be sure to put all new exhaust on it. GM somehow gave the 6.0 vans one of the strangest and most unappealing exhaust notes I have ever heard.

The vans sit in clients driveways running 1700 rpm all day so the quiet exhaust is just fine for them. Since they weigh in excess of 9000 pounds every day they are unlikely to ever be very quick, so my thoughts are I could just swap the 5.3 out of the Silverado and rebuild it to spec for future use in a van.

Silver has 3.73's in a locker, so it's already geared correctly. A little converter and some programming and a 6.0 could be a lot of fun!

First thing my BIL said when he drove that van in 2004.

He was amazed at the sheer torque that thing produces, hauling around 9k pounds like it was effortless!

It gets a lick and a promise but no formal balancing was done. The stock cam is being used with a 6000 rpm redline.

Update: My BIL did do some balancing, paying a bunch of attention to the pistons. The rods checked out so close it was amazing.

5 angle valve job, too, along with some other special tricks he does to the heads. Not really ported, just cleaned up and deburred, removed some edges, nicely detailed.

The sad thing is this motor will sit a while, but he even mothballed it for me.

Hopefully he will have some pics soon for you guys. I will also be seeing a 71 426 Hemi there today!!!

Yes it would be........keep in mind you'll need to make some suspension mods to help get all that power to the ground and not up in (tire) smoke
