Auto Zone is where I get mine.

Walmart batteries I hear are good. Get something with a warranty so if it goes out you can get it replaced. IIRC, Duralast gold have 3 yr warranty.

Cheapest and good: Costco, Sam Clubs and Walmart.

Wal mart batteries are made by Johnson controls to wal marts price specs, meaning they cut corners to meet those price specs. I have not gotten good use from them, but I always bought dual purpose "deep cycles" and cycled them. They did not like that and have wound up costing me more in the long run. One shorted a cell in 13 months. Another lasted 28 months, and the third is now barely capable of turning over my V8 despite being fully charged daily it's whole life.

Get the biggest heaviest battery which will Fit, with the longest warranty.

If you are interested in who makes whose battery brand:

For instance Interstate does not make batteries, they market batteries. Johnson control makes their starting batteries. US battery makes their deep cycle batteries.

JC also makes most of wally worlds batteries, but that does not mean they are made the same.

WalMart is usually the cheapest around here, and the warranty is good. Usually they take them back no questions asked if within warranty, but I think I've only had a bad one once. One of the great things is you can get this done just about anywhere in the country. I just paid $67 for their 2-year warranty one. I generally replace the battery at around 3 years anyway, just before the winter so I don't have to deal with a dead one some 20-below-zero morning.

Cheapest place will be Walmart or maybe Costco or the equivalent. The best battery I have found for the money is the Autozone Duralast Gold. It has a great warranty too. And AZ is open 7 days a week, same as Walmart.

Not all Wal-Mart stores are stocked with batteries for Johnson Controls.

I just looked at my local Wal-Mart at the end of last week, and it was Exide batteries in every single slot... not a JC battery to be seen.

BTW... Exide batteries just don't seem to be very robust. I have awful luck with them.

I have heard a lot of the Wally world batteries are Exide. I was basing my statement about JC on this article.

Perhaps it is wrong, or something changed, or wally world has really old batteries they are still trying to get rid of.

Apparently those round colored date stickers wal mart uses are not when the battery was made, but when it was last charged. Considering a flooded battery will self discharge 12% to 15% per month at 75 degs F, and once they are below 80% charged they are sulfating, it makes getting a fresh one even more important.

If it was last week I would have said Sears. Their online price for the #30351 (Group 51 - "South" version) was $54.95. The stores don't honor that price directly; you'd have to purchase online and specify a local store for pickup.

I actually bought one for an '03 Civic and had no problem picking it up. I did call ahead to the store, and they noted that sometimes the online ordering system lists "in stock" items that they might not stock or list wildly inaccurate inventory. However - this was a Group 51 battery in an area with a lot of small import-label cars. Still - I only saw they had one left when I went for pickup.

It now seems to be back to the regular $99.95 online price, although my local Sears says $89.95 if I buy it there.
