Switched from Chevron Supreme to Motorcraft at 31k, daily driver, mostly city miles, Dallas area. Denso 90915-20004 filters since new. 85k on motor. Oil has never been black at changing. No make-up ever added. Looking through the filler neck reveals shiny metal and no varnish. Plan to extend to 11-12 OCI. Silicon has always read high. Comments.

Wow, you were almost close to beating up this oil. Another excellent UOA from Toyota's V8 engine. But I still don't know where all this silicon comes from?!?

Where do you get the -20004 filters? All the dealerships carry -YZZxx filters. If you go to a full syn, you can probably run 15,000mi on a single OCI.

You are not going to make it to 12K you can not take a dino oil to a TBN of 1 that is ok to do with Redline butnot DIno!

sounds great!!. although I would not extend your OCI. you are running very good oil filters, but you already know that. what are you running for an air filter?

I bought a case of oil filters from the dealer years ago. I would have bought more knowing what I know now about their quality. I used my last one on this sample. Running a Napa Gold right now. I'm open to suggestions on a better value filter, especially with long OCI's. I do have 6 08922-02011's I could use if my intervals were shorter. The air filters are OEM Denso's I bought years ago as well. What about going to 15k OCI's with Pennzoil Platinum? Is that a robust oil? Can't beat Wally's price.

Don't push your luck. I wouldn't run the oil past 10K. If you want to run the oil beyond 10K, use edge or Mobil 1 ep. If you want to cough up more money, get some Amsoil SSO.

NAPA gold is a great filter.

How long in service? What lab (trying to figure TBN)?

The silicon doesn't appear to be doing anything. I find it curious that it's always been elevated. That would bug the heck out of me. Even apparently harmless unexplained things bother me.

8 months in service. Blackstone Labs. I, too, am curious by the high silicon. It wasn't high (15) on my very first UOA @ 19k miles. That was on Chevron Supreme. The next UOA @ 31k was 23 and that was also on Chevron. I've run Moto since then and the subsequent numbers were 24, 43, 35, and this latest sample at 49.

I'm amazed that you were able to get 10,000 miles out of Motorcraft. With city driving no less. That oil is better than I even thought.

Since you are looking to try a full synthetic, to get you an even longer OCI, at Walmart prices, Pennzoil Platinum isn't your best bet. It just doesn't claim to be nor is it known to be an extended drain oil. Not in the sense that Mobil 1 EP is. Actually if you can find it at Walmart in the 5 quart jug I'd think Mobil 1 0w-40 might hold up the longest of all the Walmart oils. It meets the BMW Long Life specification. I don't believe any other oil there does. It's also only a couple of dollars more than PP.

If Walmart doesn't have it in the jugs you'll pay too much for it though. Then just get it on one of the 5 quarts + Mobil 1 filter for $29.99 specials that Autozone, Advanced or Pep Boys have every couple of months.

I guess at the new, greatly reduced, price the Castrol EDGE is a pretty attractive experiment as well.

7500 - 8000 max on this oil.

Get a new air filter and check the couplings, etc.

Good luck!

PP has shown great TBN on this site so you may get your 15K OCIs out of it. Why not just go Amsoil 0w20 and 1 year intervals on the EAO oil filters?

No heaters. Vehicle lives near Dallas. As for the Amsoil route, I'm sure that would yield satisfactory results. But, I don't see any value in spending that much money unless I go to 25 or 30k OCI. I'd rather spend the difference on UOA's! Like I mentioned earlier, the metal I can see through the filler tube is clean. Look at the wear numbers. They have always been lower than the averages. I'm ready to try a full synthetic that is value priced and has shown robust results in longer interval apps. The main reason is that I'm getting tired of crawling underneath vehicles and I'm not ready to pay to get my oil changed. Thanks for the replies.

I've run both the EP and the PP. The EP is more durable than the PP in my fuel diluter.

I admire that your not doing 3k oci, but this is pushing it just like others have said. What does owners manual say about oci? What's the oil capacity of this V8??
