Chrysler 3.5L V-6MAKE/MODEL:300 OIL TYPE & GRADE: Mobil 1 10w30 EP filter- Mobil 1 Extended
Gasoline (Unleaded/Mid Grade)FUEL TYPE: OIL USE INTERVAL: 10,840 Miles
2010 TouringADDITIONAL INFO:

COMMENTSCHRIS: We've seen high aluminum (usually from pistons) in other newer Chrysler 3.5L engines, so there'sa chance that some of this is normal. At 191 ppm though, aluminum is still off the charts. When highaluminum is found there's never any lead present, so we are left wondering if this engine might havealuminum bearings. Silicon could be abrasive dirt, but can also come from aluminum bearings. Copper issomething to watch for in the future. The TBN was strong at 4.1. A TBN is low at 1.0. Watch your oilpressure and resample after 3,000 miles on the next oil. Caution.

MY ANSWER: NOT WORRIED ABOUT HIGH ALUMINUM( AS CAR IS RUNNING GREAT AND DOESN'T REALLY BURN OIL OR HEAR NOTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY. MOBIL 1 EXTENDED FILTER
CATCHES UP TO 10 MICRON PARTICLES. TORE DOWN FILTER COULD NOT VISIBLY SEE ANY METAL OR ALUMINUM PARTICLES IN FILTER NOR DID I SEE ANYTHING METALLIC SPARKLING ON MY FINGER. AS FOR ALUMINUM: pISTONS, BLOCK, HEAD, OIL PLUG, OIL PUMP, WRIST PINS ARE ALL ALUMINUM SO THAT EXPLAINS IT TO ME. DOUBTFUL I WILL DO ANOTHER
OIL ANALYSIS. MOBIL EXTENDED PERFORMANCE OIL SEEMS TO BE HOLDING UP WELL AT NEARLY 11,000 MILES.

I'd resample to see if they made a mistake.
at 191 thats beyond bad. Thats into your engine is eating something. the 47 copper isnt so great either.

LOL. You paid for a UOA, got this result and came to the conclusion that there's nothing to be concerned about, even for a follow-up test. Gold.

Well, I'm still under warranty, so if it's really bad she should show some real signs soon..I'm going to pull a sample on my new oil change when I get about 3,000 on it. I did a conversion of 190 ppm on the aluminium. It's is about 1.1 grams. Which would be about half a dime size of aluminum (1.1 grams) floating through my oil and at the size of a red blood cells, which is 5 to 10 micron. Which Mobil claimed to me their filter catches as low as 10 micron particles. Again, pulled filter apart with my filter cutter seen nothing visually. In the end, thank God it's just a car going to [censored] and not my body. LOL!

You either have an engine that is coming apart or the UOA is way off. You said the filter showed no signs of metals, but with a dime size amount of alum passing through your filter I would think there would be some evidence of it.

In the end of the day it's just a car, if she blows it's under warranty. I'm just sharing information. If the engine goes after 100,000 i'll just put another one in it. No mechanic is going to tear this car apart just because I get a bad oil analysis reading, it just doesn't work like that.

Half a dime size, LOL! that makes me feel better, you said dime size. You are correct the filter told me nothing. I do one more oil analysis later and repost.

For the most part you are right about UOAs. The only way I will even get a UOA is if my engine is loseing coolant and suspect it is entering the engine.

I haven't come across anyone on BITOG who's tracked a high reading like this. Have any of you? UOA's aren't typically of much use, but when you get 116ppm of Al, it's something to get take notice of. Problem is that since no one has followed something like this over the life of an engine we don't know if this materializes in something perceptible in a few hundred miles, a few thousand, or 10k's of thousand. You have the right attitude about it, though if this continued I wouldn't own it out of warranty.

Thanks Tig1, all the oil anaylsis do is make me Obessive Compulsive about everything. Sometimes I wish I just had let it be without knowing.

What is your sampling method? Storage?

Just trying to see if something else is at play with Al so high and everything else in line.

Your thinking what I'm think vinu-neuro. We don't know what happens in a engine at every mile of it's use. Perhaps I came upon a time were something wore a bit and let loose. For sanity of myself and information for all you..I will performm another oil analysis later and post. The more I think about it the less likely I will keep the car much past 100,000 miles, unless the engine blows or something. Than Chrysler will either rebuild it or give me a new one, than I'm keeping it.

It was provided by Black Stone Labortory. I filled a bottle up as best as I could at halfway drain point. Hard to really tell when you pull the plug what is halfway through drain period. I wore latex gloves so I don't get oil all over my hands, I'm a sissy..Chris

i may have dipped my finger in the sample once or twice also. I just wanted to see if I could see metal shaving or something reflective..LOL!

Explain further that mistake by Blackstone Lab. Not sure I follow. They personally called me when they completed the test.

You just did a 10,840 mile OCI. Are you sure you still have a warranty?

I keep all my receipts and filter labels and record my changes. According to the owners manual, they recommend every 6,000 miles. It doesn't say have to. I already study the law and the warranty. I was well short of 15,000 miles on Filter and Oil that is guarenteed for 15,000 miles. If I had engine failure due to the oil, Mobil would have to fix my issues.

Mobil 1 says "UP TO 15,000 miles"
