Second oil change on my 24 Rav4 hybrid @6000K miles. First OC was at 1K miles. This filter replaced the Toyota filter in mid-oci when I discovered most of the Toyota filters from a new case had torn pleats at the end seals and Toyota didn't seem at all concerned. This one has less than 2K miles on it but I wanted to inspect the build quality of this particular PN of Microgard filter. Just like the others I've seen on this forum, this one is a quality manufactured filter that I couldn't find anything about it I didn't like. Also, I didn't find as much as one spec of debris in the media or in the can itself. New filter used was a M1-103A.

Looks great. I’m guessing oil still in service? May I see pics of that baseplate?

I Thank You and great work 👍🇺🇸🇨🇦

Why the switch to the M1-103A?

The reason I switched is that the MG filter's o-ring was so easy to compress when tightening by hand that the filter base bottomed out on the housing. I prefer the square o-ring style of the M1 that allows the filter to tighten without metal to metal contact.

In other words, the gasket was the molded p-style. As you probably know, they are designed to compress so that the base of the filter does make contact. I believe the theory is that it is supposed to make for a better seal.

I'm kind of AR when it comes to these things. I don't like a steel can tightening against a cast aluminum housing.

Looking at the last picture of the media spread out, it looks like it picked up some pretty large "particles". Is this what they mean by a "rock catcher"? 🙃

The black nitrile P-gasket on that Toyota filter looks to have lots of permanent set.
