I still have reservations about the plastic used but agree it doesn't seem like many fail... I would probably have no qualms using them if they had something similar to the synthetic filter wire mesh on the inside of the cage. That way, if there was a catastrophic failure of the cage, the mesh would keep the cage and any media out of the oil stream.
Other than the aforementioned reduction in raw materials, cheaper cost to manufacture, and easier recycling, I don't believe there are any "benefits" to us, the end users.
