M1 FS Euro 0w-40, Val PB "Restore" 10w-30, 5.1K OCI, 07 GMC 6.2L

From what I understand, RLI BiosynXtra HD contains < 25% TMP esters. Virgin oxidation is 80-90.

It’s an alternative to using VPB Restore and is readily available if someone is unable to source the “rare” oil.
 
@jetman it is ok for the following mix
3qt VRB gen 2
3qt M1 euro 0w-40

I trying to maintain a 5W-30 viscosity for a 2yr or a 8K OCI. Changing filter @6, 12 and 24 months.

When I opened/took it apart last summer there was still plenty of carbonous stuff remaining here are there, that's why I'm running a more potent/concentrated (33%) mix of VPB Restore for the current oci.

@jetman, I enjoy reading about anyone using the VPBR. I ran it straight for several summers in my Ford Ecoboost 3.5 camper van, when I wanted a “longish” OCI, so I wouldn’t have to change it out on the road. Longish was 7k-10k, not that extreme; 4k-5k of each was highway.

Curious, if you ever considered blending the VPBR with Valvoline PBextreme, or whatever other flavor of PB you might like. The reason you might is that supposedly VPBR had “special base oils” but used Valvoline’s “PB” add pack. So IF that’s true, you might have a benign mixture, giving you some of the Restore cleaning action, without any concern for additive clash (though it doesn’t sound like you are concerned with that).

Just curious. At least some of the PB’s are dual-rated HDEO & SP. I led with the 5w40 extreme version because it is supposedly full Syn, whereas I think the 10w30 version is semi-syn.

*UPDATE* - Dropped the oil pan again this week.

2007 Yukon Denali w/200,500 miles on it's 6.2L L92
It was time for an oil & filter change (5k miles oci). When I cut the Fram Ultra XG10060oil filter open I found plenty of debris. I stuck my borescope in the drain plug hole but couldn't get a clear view of the inside floor of the pan. So, I took the pan off to see if my 33% mix of VPB "Restore" (Gen1) had done some more cleaning.
IT HAD :)

I went back with a 50% mix of VPB"Restore" and 50% M1 FS Euro 0w-40 and a Purolator Boss PBL 22500 filter.

Waiting for the Blackstone results.

Kind of like going on a semi low carb diet, not much results. Go no carb and you will lose 30 lbs in 30 days.

I am not a scientist, just putting in my opinion on the subject of blending two different formulations of oils. @jetman asked for opinions. If I were going to try this, I would at the least use a Valvoline product with the Restore. As a matter of fact, I thought about it since it came out on my RV.

HPL uses a mono (30/40) for the EC products - and that tells me they might not think mixing VM’s and other chemicals is the best plan …

Yeah.

In my limited knowledge of chemistry, the requirements to obtain a certain viscosity like 0w40 is different than lets say a 10w40 or 15w40. Even the same brand might have very different chemistry per product or grade. Again, as i understand, these products are not typically made to work in concert with other products. Mix 5 different oils that perform well stand alone, and the performance of the mix does not necessarily mean equal performance of the individual.

The Motor oil geek has many videos on it, and while many here cringe at his videos, I think that while he might not be a chemist or have a PHD in lubeoil-ology, he does know and see the effect of things on engines, and really that is what matters. Where the metal meets the metal, not the % content of Moly or whatever, like others might think.

Engine oil analysis, again as I understand measures the effect of the oil in the engine, not the oil......I think this is a point sometimes missed......or maybe misunderstood

I have said it before, if someone made an oil that worked well that was made of chicken poop extract and toe jam...........why not.

Change the o-ring on the pickup tube while you have it open, if you've never done it before. It's a source of low oil pressure on these and other V8s with crank snout driven oil pumps.

Here's the latest UOA report, about 2 qts VPB "Restore" mixed w/4 qts M1.

Blackstone nailed it :)

Yes, I had the intake, valley cover, valve covers, timing cover, and oil pan off 1000 miles into this oci.
Power/mpg are normal, 15+ mpg locally and 18+ hwy.
Oil consumption is 1/4 qt/5000 miles
1oz in the catch can/5k miles
Crud/gunk in the oil filter and in the bottom of the pan again since running a mix of VPB "Restore" starting 2 OCIs ago, Sept 2023 and10k miles.

A little concerning to me are these slightly high metals:
Chromium this oci = 4, last time 2
FE this oci = 80, last time = 80
PB this oci = 20, last time = 14
Cu this oci = 18, last time = 14, although BS shows universal avg for the engine to be 19?

Sept 2023, two oil changes ago, I started running 1 qt of VPB "Restore" with 5 qts M1. I also removed the oil cooler, engine oil bypass oil filter setup, and the extra 4 qt oil sump, all of which I had installed in 2021, and went back to stock. I also stopped running a larger full flow oil filter with a higher bypass psi (22) rating, and started running the shorter oil filter # the that parts manuals call for with its lower bypass psi (15).

I underlined in RED in the comments area some important points.

I changed the oil to 3 qts VPB "restore" and 3 qts M1 and went back to the larger oil filter w/22 psi bypass rating.
