Does super high molly make it better ?

The moly used by Mobil and pennzoil is superior to the moly in the Mazda oil which is why so much less is required.

Pffftt.
I seriously doubt there would be any noticeable change in anything, smoothness or otherwise.

+1.
Not all moly is created equal. M1 0-20 is a very high quality lub. Holds up very well in high temps and extreme cold, and performs well in long OCIs.

Except Mazda's 2.5 skyactive engine due to it's advanced Direct Injection and Super high compression 13:1 can make this engine hard on oil... So maybe unusually high Molly count is there to protect this high performance engine while very thin 0-20 supports it's Fuel Economy ??? Does that makes sense ? So here is another question will M1 0-20 AFE be a better oil in such application than custom made Mazda's own 0-20 fluid ....?

I think it does. Its because Mazda oil has 600 ppm dimer moly, while Toyota Genuine Motor Oil, made by Mobil, has 116 ppm trimer moly, as one comparison. That 600 is a lot of dimer moly, so guessing it still edges out levels of around 100 ppm trimer in Mobil products. Sure trimer is more efficient, but 6 times as efficient? doubt it, So go with Mazda oil in your Mazda.

I think Idemitsu, makers of the Mazda Genuine Motor Oil MGMO, worked with Mazda and there is strong possibility they all know what they are doing. Otherwise, why put in large gobs of moly at all? The easy thing to do would be to just get a more conventional average additive package in there and call it good enough. Seems they went the extra mile here.

What is it about 20 grade oil that makes it impossible to ship to Mexico? Doesn't it stack on pallets and fit into trailers and shipping containers the same as 30, 40, or 50 grade oil?

If nobody wants it, why market it? If nobody specs it there, no one is going to want it, either. It's a bit of a circle, I guess.

Why doesn't Mobil offer 10w-40 and 20w-50 PCMOs or monograde PCMOs in Canada, while everyone else does? Obviously, Mobil doesn't think it's worth blending up here or importing, despite the fact that it ships nicely and fits on trailers and pallets.

What would be fuel economy loss with 0-30 over 0-20 ? Any idea ?

Something less than 1%. You'd be doing very well to measure a difference consistently.

Yes. Moly is not only an anti-wear additive, but is also a friction modifier. They probably have more moly in there than is needed for wear protection in order to further reduce friction.

In Mexico, 5w30 dino is cheap, 0W-20 synthetic is expensive. Cheap oil gets people to change it more often. In Florida, you can run whatever you want - but these modern synthetic 0W-20 oils are high quality, even the blends.

I am going to stick with Mazda high moly 0w-20 in my new Mazda 2. It was between that, TGMO and M1 AFE. The nice moly content really sealed the deal for me. Also, doesn't the Mazda moly oil have a very good VI?

Sourced it for 7.31 per quart with free shipping if you spend 100 dollars, online from Med Center Mazda.

Now if I could find some Mazda M-5 ATF that wasn't 9.50 a quart.

It isn't hard on oil at all. Run premium if you are concerned about fuel dilution.

My mazda dealership has it for under $7/qt.

Having said that, Castrol Import Multi vehicles ATF meets the Mazda M-5 Specs. It is thicker than traditional MerconV ATFs.

Thanks and I'll look into that. Researching M-5 fluid, I am finding it is not a very stout product. Fluid in horrible condition in as little as 20K miles. Definitely looking for a safe alternative to it.

The VI is high at 221. Toyota Genuine is at 229, most others are under 200. Very high that Mazda Moly genuine oil. .... I know what you mean, the high 600 ppm moly content kind of makes you wonder if Mazda-Idemitsu are doing something special for us. Nobody else that I've ever seen has it that high, even though its the dimer technology and not the trimer tech. The trimer moly oils like Toyota Oil has around 100 ppm trimer, so I'm assuming 600 ppm dimer is better than 100 ppm trimer, although it might be a close call. Also known as trinuclear moly and dinuclear moly.

So you think the oil companies could ship 20 grade to Mexico if the manufacturers specified 20 grade for the cars sold there?

Mexico has smog laws and testing, but it isn't as extreme as it is in the USA. About 10 years ago, you could buy an air cooled VW Beetle, but they had catalytic converters.

They have this because Mexico City is extremely smoggy. Some of my high school teachers visited Mexico City and told us about it. They also told us that there are laws about when you are allowed to drive your car.

Other parts of Mexico may be different, but I don't know for sure.

Redline has high moly content:

Sustina 0W-20 has a VI of 229, TGMO is in the 215-216 area.
There is also SynGard 0W-20 with of 220 VI.
That about it for the 200+ Vi oils.
