hey guys,

im in the market for an pre-owned suv.

my criteria is 4wd, mileage less than 100k. reliable and an decent size boot.
im trying to stay away from GM products but open to option.

so far, I seen pre-owned ml350 or gl450 around the $20k-$25k but every time I try to go see it, is been sold.

what do you guys recommend?

2016-2018 were the best years for a used RAV4 and should be in your price range with all wheel drive. They would certainly prove to be more reliable than the Mercedes models mentioned and far less expensive to maintain. Luxurious? No. Practical? Yes.

If reliability is high on your list then I second the RAV-4 suggestion. We had a 2015 Limited and it gave us flawless reliability up until it was totaled in a crash.

Why is your criteria 4wd in california? Are you going to be going deep into the desert?

If you want a reliable but not as fun SUV- CR-V with a K24. or a Rav4

More fun to drive - Forester.

If towing- none of the above.

If you're into ze Germans, I'd recommend an F25 X3. Preferably from 2017 and up.

Some might even be CPO which come with additional warranty. Ours has been reliable in the 2 years and 26k COVID miles we've owned it.

You could also look for a MB Bluetec which has had the emissions recall completed. These cars now have a 4yr/48k mile warranty that covers a comprehensive list.

We have both and neither have ever left us stranded. YMMV.

My brother has had shockingly good luck with a Land Rover LR4 V8. I expect it to break at any minute. It was cheaper/nicer than all other SUVs at the time. Can't say i recommend it but you might find a bargain in one if your willing to have a repair budget.

Different strokes. You can buy new for 25k. That's what I'd do.

As other mentioned: criteria?
Your appliance SUV like Toyota or Honda ain't no Mercedes in performance, technology etc. department. GL450 can tow pretty much as good sized truck. But, it comes with more stringent maintenance that you have to be on top of it otherwise things go downhill fast.
Also, GL450? Are you ready for $250-300 suspension airbags when they die, and that is for some aftermarket bottomfeeder?

I second Mazda Cx-5. I've been looking at similar vehicles for the past month to replace my focus and it seems like Mazda is the best choice between price, reliability, features, and size.
