Went to 3 truck stops in West Memphis yesterday looking for 10w30 Delvac. No luck. Lots of 15w40 Delvac, Delo, and Rotella T. Anyone have any other ideas? I want to run 10w30 Delvac for an AutoRx rinse.

A guy can get the Conoco HD Fleet Supreme in quarts from any Conoco Distributor for 17 bucks a case . Some might think it's a little skimpy on the additive treat rate

I've had this in the mother in laws Ford Tempo for 14 months now thinking I'll change it before too long

Ford carries a Motorcraft CI-4 10W-30, at $2.60 a quart. I'll guess it's for the newer Ford diesel, and that it's available at most dealers.

I'd contact AV lubes and get the real story on the availability of the 10w-30. Some web outfits note the 1300 15w-40 in 5 gallon pails ...as well as the 1330-40-50 in the straight weights ..I can't see why the 10w-30 would be the only one singled out for NOT being available in this same 5 gal. pail.

I know the entire LL line is avaiable in 5 gallon pails from any Pennzoil distributor.

Gary they fill those 5 gallon pails from 55 gallon drums at the distributors who will make an attempt to mess with it

Thats the real story .

There's a place in Houston that has 5 gallon pails . After shipping it would be 4 bucks a quart .

A local Exxon Dist popped open a drum of the Exxon XD-3 in the past but quit doing it since there are so many 10w-30 wt options in quarts available in my neck of the woods and most went unsold. I don't know what the options are in the topic authors neck of the woods but Mystik , Conoco ,or other surely can be found .

Plain SL Dino buck a quart oughta work...no ?

In Michigan, I noticed Walmart carries Rotella 10W30 in gallons if you can live with this brand.

Are you sure?? My 5 gal pail has a fill date of COA268160/10124 (10/12/04) and was ordered the day before it was delivered last Wed or Thurs to my local wrench who orders his 10w-30 (not LL) Pennzoil in a 55 gal drum. It cost me no more than it would have cost the wrench based on his price schedule ($32.97 - $1.60/quart) delivered to his shop along with any other Pennzoil product that he ordered (Brakeclean, PZ filters, etc.). This is done all the time to dealers and whatnot. I think his cost for 10w-30 is around $1.25/quart. My 10w is definitely 10w. I would have gotten Delo 400 in the 10w ..but this was so convenient.

Beyond all that, if you don't have to have Delvac 1300 ..there is 10w-30 available through your local Chevron or Sopus distributor (sopus = Shell Oil US-shell, QS, PZ) if you're willing to buy it in the 5 gal pail.

btw- I did call the regional distributor for Mobil products in West Chester, PA. I think the lady was just blowing me off, but as soon as I said 10w-30 in the Delvac 1300 ..she blurted out that it was discontinued. That I could "read" serveral ways. Either it's true that Exxon-Mobil has stopped making it (unlikely - but possible) or the regional distributor doesn't bother with it since demand is zilch and they aren't in it to lose money.

For Dave: I assume the "Package only" means cases (gallons/quarts maybe??)

Hmmm...too bad. If memory serves, I believe I saw Delo 400 10w30 in gallon jugs at the local Autozone.

Wow! Thanks for the info, guys. All I've been able to find locally is 15w40 in various brands. One of the truck stops did have 10w30 Rotella... for $2.99 a quart.

If I can't find some 10w30 for a reasonable price, I'll just use something cheap from wally world for the rinse phase.

WOW! You sure this ins't a VOA from the latest batches of M1R ??

Walmart carriers a MotorCraft SuperDuty Diesel 10W30 with the CI-4 rateing. I suspect that it is the exact same thing that Motorbike spec.'ed out from Conoco. Conoco only has one 10W30 that is CI-4 rated and it is their best dino oil.

I have heard Molekule comment that in gasoline engines, increasing zddp levels above that necessary, may actually increase wear.

Might this Conoco be too much of an otherwise good thing for a gasser? What is to be gained above around 1200 ppm?

This is why I don't think pails are done on the "local" level.
quote:

The packaging plant has two high-speed (360 bottles per minute) quart filling lines, a specialty bottle filling line capable of handling containers ranging in size from eight ounces to two and one-half gallons, a drum line (1,800 drums per day), a pail filling line (15,000 pails per day), and a 16 gallon/120 pound keg filling line (1,200 kegs per day).

And this is a non-national brand American Refining Group. I would think for Mobil or Sopus ..or Chevron ..they should easily be as advanced.

..but I imagine where demand would not warrant a pallet of the stuff ..a disributor would use a 55 gallon drum for economy reasons.
