Lets talk about new vehicles

The used car market just blew up
I got some prices from Carvana and Carmax... the party is over...the fat lady has sang...

This is fresh....it's about GM being shady about the V8 engine issues.
I guess Ford isn't the only one, add Toyota (6 cyl) the list goes on...

Hey, let's not be disparaging here. Ford has elevated recalls to an art form. ;)

(Very happy with my Fords by the way.)
Toyota is trying to push a V6 TD for the Tundra and YT is pushing the Tundra hard these days....
Very little mention of the issues

Are all pickups junk now??

Nissan Frontier new model water pump estimated $2600 repair...
Well, I wonder if there as good as the VQ40 pump. If so I wouldn't be too worried. Has anyone seen one fail yet - that engine has been out since 2020?

My Xterra VQ40 pump was replaced at 240K only because the timing chain guides wore out (known VQ40 problem they fixed in like 2010) so it was open anyway. The bearing felt fine - very smooth. My VQ40 Frontier pump has 230K now I guess.

Chain driven pumps can last a very long time simply because there is no real load on the bearing like there was in the old days with belt driven pumps.

How much was the repair and what year

So you need the full story. Mine was 2008

2005 - 2009 Xterra / Frontier / Pathfinder had timing chain links that were possibly mis-stamped. The tier supplier - whom I know and won't name - used the dies too long and ended up burrs on the links. Luck of the draw on how many burrs you got. If you had one with burrs it would wear out the secondary chain guides. The primary guides lasted much longer even with the burrs. The theory was that because it was closer to the oil pan the primary guides had better lubrication and took the burrs better. So the theory is.

Anyway your question - I replaced everything - primary and secondary chains, guides, water pump, etc. It was $1700 at a indy shop 10 years ago using OEM parts. I have read on the boards its now closer to $2500 - $3000. Mostly labor - its like 10 hours. Even OEM parts are not that expensive.

We shall see if my Fronty ever needs it. Nissan supposedly not only corrected the parts stamping problem a the supplier, but added more oil carrying links to the chain and improved the guide material. There was a TSB. I doubt my Fronty ever needs it but we shall see.

As for the water pump - the VQ40 you can replace pretty easily via an access panel on the front cover. Its about ~ 4 hour job. Apparently on the VQ38DD (new engine) they got rid of that cover, which is unfortunate.

I’d buy a Maverick but it’s more of a trucklet. A carefully optioned F150 would be fine too. A lightly used Frontier would be a good bet as well.
Yeah I like Mavericks but we are as you say talking about the big trucks.
The Frontier has a decent tow rating and good incentives right now. Not a big truck but serviceable

I was thinking the Frontier was gone but I realized it is the TItan. I believe the Titan had a V8 that actually worked.

There was a Titan next to my Mustang today when I left work. It’s a real truck.

They still have some on the lots
You need the XD diesel 😆
A real turd.

So about two months ago my long time beloved country bumpkin Ford dealer (large though) got bought out by some outfit I’ve never heard of.

Happened to drive by yesterday and was surprised to see the lot that was normally overstuffed was way thinner and you could tell vehicles were spread out to make it look full. Had to be less than half normal inventory. As usual about all you could see from the highway was trucks, but way fewer of them.

I’m at a loss for an explanation, any ideas?
